Advanced iOS virus targeting Hong Kong protestors -security firm | Reuters

An iOS trojan, and no indication that these phones are necessarily jailbroken. And this is not a malicious app.

thanks to cjcampbell for the find.

It's not surprising that people would write viruses to specifically target ios. The opposite is true in the desktop space.. people think macs are immune to viruses but the truth is nobody writes viruses for macs because 95% of business operate on PC's

In the mobile space however.. ios is a big chunk of the market.

This incidence may however throw out the "iOS is more secure, especially if you don't jailbreak your phone and load seedy apps" claims. AFAIK, Android malware has always been brought in by rogue apps.

Sorry rainman, but it's a jailbreak-only exploit. Requires Cydia to install.

If you jailbreak and install software from random sources, you're gonna have a bad time.

Thanks Mikey. The Reuters link did not mention this information.

It just allows you to install apps that aren't from the official App Store, some of those apps control things on iOS that Apple has purposely locked down
