Your best bet is to pre-order it. Hopefully, they do like they did the 3GS and offered free fed-ex shipping to be delivered the day of release. That way no long lines and you activate it right over iTunes. It also depends on your area. I would imagine that pre-order for pick up may work like the iPad where they had 2 separate lines. One for pre-order pickups and the other for people who didn't already order it. At least that's how it was at the store in my area. I know if you pre-order for pickup and your local store, you shouldn't have to worrying about it being sold. They hold those to the side and leftover ones are sold to everyone else on release day.
