That's what they'll need if it's to succeed. The new MMS isn't even full MMS, lacking the video functionality of other MMS, even the cut/copy/paste remains to be seen whether it'll work across all apps - it's caused Apple significant problems, which is why they left it out for so long.
In the UK, O2 (official iphone carrier) is cutting the prices of iphone 3g, so the tariff is the same but the phones are now free. It's rumoured this is to clear stock and make way in the pricing structure for the next iphone later in the year, and seems to make sense, as Apple/O2 have stuck to the overpriced format for years without budging, so there must be a good reason for why they now want to drop that price...
