Default Iphone as MP3 player?

Hello Crackberrians, please forgive me for being a total Iphone noob but I have a few questions. I currently have a Curve and like it, but I have a friend who will sell me his Iphone for a really good price. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada, the Iphone is only available on Rogers here, and in our area Rogers doesn't have great coverage. I'm not sure I'd want to switch so here are my questions: would the Iphone (without a plan) be usable as an MP3 player? I was thinking about buying the Touch but this Iphone is cheaper. Any pros or cons? (Check ESN or anything?) Also, is there anything I should look out for if I do decide to go this route? There is a chance that if I really like the Iphone I might make the switch, so I'd also like to make sure I could use it as a phone if I wanted. Any info or suggestions would be most welcome!

No such thing as an ESN on the iPhone. If it's been activated before than I think you can use it as an iTouch. I've taken the sim out of my already-activated AT&T iPhone 3G and it worked as an iTouch.

Yes it will work perfectly fine as an iPod Touch without a SIM in it.

It could work, but I'm afraid you may need to jailbreak it to pass the "activation" if you run into syncing issues with iTunes.

Jayden is correct. If the phone has been restored back to the original state you will have to jailbreak it. If not, you will be fine.
