I don't know about you guys but I think Android is hitting Apple hard now
I think the days of seeing Android as a runner-up OS when compared to iOS are long gone. The hardware companies, especially Samsung, have been hitting home runs with their devices. i just don't see Apple as the clear winner in the mobile world anymore. In my opinion iOS has always been a great OS, but what I have seen of iOS 6 hasn't really knocked my socks off. Android Jelly Bean in my opinion is just as solid of an OS as iOS.
I mean eventually iOS has to evolve right? Maybe sooner rather than later Apple will abandon its static iOS icon look for a more dynamic Android live widgets look? For the first time in a long time I'm not sure if an iPhone will be my next phone purchase.
All I have to say is the iPhone 5 better really impress.Yes Dude! Yes Dude! Yes Dude! - 08-20-2012, 12:51 PM #3
I never understood the hype of Apple products. They have simple/nice ui that's all. The iphone is super inefficient too. Everybody I know that has a 3G or 4 are ready to switch mainly because of poor battery life or unreliability. They somehow see android as the enemy or an inferior copy and they're really interested in bb10. Perhaps that's why there are so many apple fans on crackberry.com. It's annoying sometimes but their interest in bb10 is a good sign.
As for iphone 5, I really doubt it will be a big improvement. Given that the existing phones were already inefficient (you can't even watch 1 full length movie on a charge and you have to dock it everywhere) imagine adding a larger screen and an lte chipset! Apple also had to redesign the connectors to allow a larger current. It won't even work with existing docking hardware... What a letdown. Imagine dropping hundreds of dollars on a bose system and your iphone5 won't dock to it.
Bb10 on the other hand will be revolutionary. 3 years in the making with efficiency built from the ground up it'll be amazing. My playbook is almost 1yo and didn't crash or freeze even once. I use itatleast 2hrs a day and it's always fast. I'm hoping for a new wifi version.. - 08-20-2012, 01:20 PM #4

Funny how Android is literally hitting Apple hard now as well...through Motorola Mobility. They actually filed suit against Apple and the result will be a ban of Iphone and Ipads in the States. That would seriously make a hard dent on Apple's future for sure. Times are really achanging very soon.

Some of those who are watching the Android vs. Apple sales are missing an important point.... price point.... as Android is pulling ahead in numbers... Apple at this point anyways are making a lot more money pur phone ( 500 per phone ) seems to be the agreed upon price... Apple is raking in the cash..... as when the Iphone 5 shows up... they should be flying off the shelves and Apple will be raking in the cash..... Carriers were hoping to make their money on contracts.... has not wprked out well in that repect.... sort of why RIM is having problems..... there are increasing their user base but with not much margin.....

This is 100% correct. Android is selling more phones than Apple for many reasons. They're cheaper, there are a lot more carriers selling them world wide, and the carriers are subsidizing them more. I see a lot of top of the line Android devices for $99/with contract or even free. You won't see an i5 for $99 or free with a 2 yr plan. The thing that remains constant is like you said, the profits made on each device. Apples numbers tell the tale.

Android has been winning the platforms wars for quite a while. Having said that, Apple is still laughing to the bank in ways Android manufacturers could only dream of.

Yes apple is raking in the money now, so was blackberry at the start. Look where Rim is now struggling. It seems to me apple following suit, nothing really new in 5 years onther then maybe siri and retina display. Big deal nothing of great improvement. Android where its at in inovation lately on os front. You never know bb10 can create a big resurgence for Rim and apple might see even more loss of market share. And the dark horse of win8 is just around the corner as well. ios6 is pathetic at best no major changes from ios5, better siri integration and apple own maps big woop.

BlackBerry never made money like Apple. Which, as of today, is the most valuable company ever.

No it did not but it was quite successful and now they are near death. So was apple before Jobs came back. If apple dosnt reinvent their iPhone os and their platform who is to say they will end up on brink of bankruptcy again.

Apple has been cresting for some time now, no doubt. The golden age has to end sometime I guess. I have no doubt the clock is ticking. Especially with Jobs gone.

This is where you are wrong. Maybe you are a fanboy (Steve Jobs avatar), but don't call all of us one. You usually have decent comments too.
I can name a few devices IMO that are better than the iPhone 4S. For you they might not be, but the iPhone 4S wasn't even considered when I got rid of my iPhone 4. IMO it wasn't a big enough upgrade. - 08-21-2012, 12:19 PM #22
This thread is not about what is the better phone. LOL! If the iPhone 4S works for you, that is great. It is an excellent device and I am glad you like it. That was not my point in my previous post. I was commenting on your post. For you to make an assumption that Android is outselling Apple simply because they are cheap and free is outrageous and laughable. Open your eyes, there are more devices out there than one and sales reports are showing that. The 4S is great device for you, but not for all, including myself. I too have used every platform, including windows(which I believe will be the next big thing) and maybe am a BB fanboy, but my eyes are open to all devices, not just one.

Maybe my definition of fanboy is different than yours. Mine is a person who enjoys their device, wants to know more about it, and enjoys conversing and sharing with others that have similar interests. Am I crazy about my iPhone or Apple as a whole? No. I am however crazy about my wife and my children. And when I generalized everyone here as fanboys, I was speaking purely about our shared interest in smartphone, regardless of the platform. To me, the fact that we are all even on these forums makes us fanboys.

And here it is a post about market share has turned into a pissing contest of which phone model is better. That's the problem with tech forums, much like sport forums to much blind loyalty and fanboyism. Plan and simple if android was cheap and crappy it would not be # 1 in market share, its # 1 because the majority of consumers with smartphones have android. In the end BB win ios and android are all great devices, however not great for everybody.
Tech companies rise and fall come and go, and apple is not impervious to this fact. This very debate was the purpose of ops post. So please lets get back on track.
