Great if a Google Maps app can reappear on iOS, but Apple won't let it get tied to any other app, so a map search from Mail, Pages and 3rd Party apps will still pull up the sub-standard Apple Maps.

Apple Maps has been working fine for me, although I'm in a major city so the data is probably a lot more extensive than for others. No need for google maps here.

If we gotta be stuck with Apple Maps (and we are as the default) then please Apple, let users decide the Layers they wish to view on it. My local map (for example) is awash in, I'm guessing, Yelp icons (sometimes to places that no longer exist) and frankly, its not helpful. If I could strip that layer (to start) off your Maps, then the app would suck less.
