YouVersion: Bible on your BB

I promised to review some Bible software a short while ago. This is one I stumbled on while talking to a Twitter friend, and I am happy I stumbled.

Youversion is an offering from Lifechurch.tv that is aimed at making the Bible more accessible to all. The best part is that they truly have a heart for leveraging technology to make it happen.

This application is user friendly, allowing users to add devotions and notes to specific verses that can be used by fellow users.

The whole project makes available a robust online Bible in numerous translations. Well, the developers didn't stop there; they created a BlackBerry port, so that your biblical needs are available on the go.

The BlackBerry application has more than 30 different translations in numerous languages. You can search the entire Bible with keywords. Upon starting the program on your Berry, you are welcomed to a clean mobile interface with an option to check other user contributions, or to use the built-in one-year reading plan, or simply just "read."

I found that application responsive. The default font was perfect, and can be made smaller or larger to fit the users tastes.

If I had to gripe (and I am honestly struggling here), it would be about the inability of a user to make notes/contributions on the BlackBerry.

All in all, this is a beautifully-made free application for BlackBerry and (gasp!) iPhone users. A true blessing. Have fun "inviting" friends and family to use this application Facebook-style via email, or join the growing community at youversion.com.

I sure like it. I believe it was originally made for iPhone (the obvious trendy choice), but the guys behind it, thankfully, are Berry users. They call/email little old me personally to talk about updates from time to time.

The recent updates are nice.

I hear we may be able to have downloadable (carry-with) content soon, just like the iPhone port. Won't be as much of a need for data to access this application.

I have PC Study Bible on my desktop, so this will be a nice BB add-on.

tre, good review. I have been using this for a couple weeks now
and it is the best Bible reader I have ever used.

I downloaded this not too long ago from that other thread. It's awesome. Can't wait to use it Sunday during church!!!

Yeah I would love to use it during church too. But the thought of messing with my phone, even though I would be reading the bible, during church kinda makes me feel a little uneasy.

I love the app though!

I hear ya... I was the same way. Make sure to "prep" it before church, so an automatic update doesn't surprise you.

I downloaded it today so far love it thanks. It was a must for me GODs been hitting me up side the head with the proverbial 4x4. This app will help a lot.

So what this means is, I can say I'm reading the Bible in church when I'm actually texting! And.. I can get forgiven by the top of the hour because, hey, when the Benediction rolls around, I'm clean as a just changed baby's backside. Woot!

Maybe I'm misinterpreting this somehow... =/

My daughter sent me the Bible program to download on my blackberry. The program is awesome. Now I can study the bible anywhere I go. This was a great thing to come up with

I have heard of one person getting it to work on the Storm. Their website does state that a Storm specific application is due shortly.

I found myself worried about that as well but I decided that I didn't care what other thought, God sees all and knows that I am in His Word!!! Judge on

Exactly...

I know it can be tough; now I go to a church where my pastor is very likely to whip out his own BB, but I know some folks may talk. Heck, it can then be a way of getting the word out. I have met few people who were not at least interested in learning about electronic bibles.

As you said, God sees.
