Question for developers/programmers

Hello, Can any of you tell me why RIM devices seem to not have the same things avaliable to them as other platforms?

For instance when surfing the web there are many site that have a "download our app now for your smartphone" and it is for iphone and android only, no download for blackberry.

Is this because it's much more difficult and costly to make the same app for blackberry and why. Is it because of security? Is it because of RIM? Is it because of the OS? Is it because of the hardware?

If it is because of RIM or security why does RIM even attempt to sell to the average joe when things avg joe might want to do will not be avaliable to do. All sales people should be telling avg joe that RIM devices are not for consumers and are only for business.

I know that RIM would like to become more avg joe friendly but if the devices are crippled by them, security, hardware or software no wonder they are finding themselves in trouble. I don't think you can have it both ways. How does apple or android serve both avg joe and business at the same time where RIM seems unable to do so?
