EyeLidManager problem

I’m trying to use an eyelidmanager. Here is the problem. I’m adding fieldmanager to my mainscreen and it is added at the top of the screen as it should. As soon as I add an eyelidmanager, anything I add to the screen is all the way at the bottom of the page. Surrounding the eylidmanager with a border revealed that the area of the eyelidmanager encompasses the entire screen. Naturally anything added after, appears on the bottom of the screen with a huge blank area on top. I have tried to restrict the size of the manager overriding the sublayout method put then the manager is not displayed at all.
