Default Am I a developer?

I have never developed any apps for RIM/Playbook or any other os.
But I was able to download the developer beta.
So am I a developer because I was able to download the developer beta which is supposedly meant only for developers ?
---Or was it just 'developer beta' name for the os just a name but meant for anyone ( really anyone who has a playbook ) to download it ?
--Or was this how much work RIM has put into but was forced to release it anyways?
--Or was it just a regular OS stripped down to make it look like beta so RIM has the excuse to divert complains by saying it's 'beta'?
--Or was this just what it says, a developer beta from RIMs perspective ?
--Or do you have to be a developer to understand what a 'developer beta' is?
--Or is it because a beta OS for playbook is better than initial non-beta releases ?

Can someone clarify

No, you are not a developer..It is a beta for developers. Anyone could download it. Just because you downloaded a deverloper beta does not make you a developer.

Being more precise avoid confusions ...
In fact this preview was labeled "Runtine for Android apps" and filled with this warning : "if you are a developer that needs to test an Android app packaged for the BlackBerry PlayBook or BlackBerry WebWorks application on PlayBook OS 2.0."

So, it is what it meant to be ... a partially functioning environment (PB O.S 2.0 beta) allowing developers to make tests of portability, and have a sneak preview of what would be UI, mostly.

At this point, I think every PB owner has been a "developer" for RIM. We've been developing since April with nothing to show for it .

Because anyone can be an Android developer, the beta must be open to anyone. They could've used App World if they wanted it to be a developer-only beta, but using developers for the BlackBerry platform doesn't help when you want to test the Android environment. You need Android developers for that.

I think it's safe to say that it has been stripped down as they said it was. Other threads show settings and options for upcoming features.

Why RIM did not just have a link for only devs with a license or password or some thing that only devs can down loan this beta version. It is clear to see that RIM put this beta out for consumer to upgrade too. This is too long of time that people waiting for a new upgrade, once this beta is out every person who own a PB will want to see what is in it and RIM is going to make money from this beta version because people is going to f*** up and have to send them back to RIM to fix the problem.

No, you are not a developer.

You are being offered this OS 2.0 upgrade in case you wanted to develop an application as a hobbyist developer. This is why you have an OS 2.0 that has the android runtime as well as AIR 3 and webworks.

It is the same idea as the developer preview with Windows 8 from Microsoft. It is meant to be used for developers to plan and deploy applications, as it is usually bad practice to make an application against a system you do not have.

All other features are removed to make sure this OS is only used as a development criteria and not being used in a production case.

probably because there's lots of non pb/bb users that have android apps that rim could lure in to show them how easy it is to port an android app over. Then show anyone how easy it is to code for.

as well, I think this is the right direction of less red tape to try to do anything for rim. Opening it up to anyone without having to fully register as a developer will speed things up.

now they have to work on speeding and cutting the red tape/beauracracy of approving apps.

Not all potential developers are registered with RIM at the moment. I have a few friends as developers are impressed at what they see and are trying out development. But this is only possible because the OS 2.0 is opened to them to generate interest.

Pretty sure if you were a Dev, you'd know. Thanks for another overly dramatic thread though...

LoL that's funny.
However, why would one who is not a surgeon have access to such tools?? I thought 2.0 was going to be something fun and/or functional!
