Default whats up with gmail?

So.....longtime blackberry user here. I've been using the HTC Vivid for a couple days now. I love the device....love just about everything about it except the most important thing to me.....email. Isn't google supposed to do gmail well? I have 2 gmail accounts. Yeah....that's what I thought too.. It sux.....all I want it to do is push....when someone sends me mail....I want it. What a concept. Gmail doesn't push email to me. I have to sync it just to get mail. There is no duration interval to sync...which makes me think it should push...but it doesn't. Is gmail in the gmail app (not the native HTC app) not push?
Could someone please advise?
Thank you......& Merry Christmas

Gmail is push and is (imo) better and faster than bb. Check your settings and make sure sync is turned on.

right, go to Settings, Accounts and Sync and make sure your gmail address is there and click on it and make sure that email is checked to sync (along with calendar and whatever else you want)

Has to be a settings problem. Whenever anyone sends something to either of my two gmails, I get it instantly.

Ahhh....This is totally my bad....What a dope. I don't want to sync contacts and calendar wirelessly so I have auto sync data off...DOAH....
MS Outlook is my email/contact/calendar client.
Is there a way I can not sync contacts & calendar with gmail but sync mail?

Yes. When you go into each email account in the Accounts Menu, you can toggle off Calendar, Contacts (and G+, Gmusic, etc if you have them installed).
