Another very useful and cool thing... when on a phone call, say picking up a voice message when you have to press the keypad to enter a password etc - when the phone is close to your ear the screen goes dark (i.e. you can't see the keypad) but when you move the phone away from your ear the screen becomes visible again so you can tap/press the numbers on that nice large keypad.
The keypad basically appears when you need it and dims when you don't. Nice! - 07-18-2012, 03:46 PM

And I think this is probably common to Android phones, but, I've not had to do a battery pull, or reboot my phone. I download apps and I can open them immediately. No messing around, no reboot now or later. How cool is that ;-) Just download and go. LOL
Talking about apps, I've also discoverd that if you have app updates to run they can update simultaneously. I had a couple this morning and I decided to see what would happen if I tapped the two. They started updating at the same time! Whoa!
It might be an Android thing anyway, but coming from a Blackberry that's unheard of. Even on the Playbook I could never do that, one had to wait for the other to finish. I'm setting most of mine to update automatically... saves time as they just update in the background.

Are people serious the S3 hasn't been updated to jelly bean? Thats a huge fail. I'd be pretty upset.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't jelly bean JUST get released with the Nexus 7? Didn't it JUST get released on Nexus devices? Ice Cream Sandwich JUST got released for the SGS2 about a month ago, so I wouldn't expect an official Jelly Bean release for the SGS3 (and other skinned devices) for several months. Heck this is my first device with ICS, so it's a new experience for me as is.

You're welcome! I tried to set it to stocks to show you what that looked like, hoping it would default to the dow, nasdaq, s&p, and some top stocks just to start off, but it wanted me to sign into yahoo stocks and set stuff up and I was too lazy lol.
You can also customize the news, too. As you can see, I have mine set to technology. You have a ton of options like entertainment, world, etc to chose from as well.
It's kind of hidden. Go to Settings -> Security -> Lock screen options -> Information ticker.
I LOVE the form factor of this device, but I do feel the need for a case...so I got the best of both worlds:

Thanks PP!
I have the Samsung Galaxy OEM case, the one that looks like a book cover. Nice and light and covers the screen and doesn't add any weight. The back of the case becomes the back of the phone and it has a really smooth high end but light cover. Plus it's a gorgeous pebble blue
When taking photos though I have to make sure the cover's out of the way. So earlier this week I put on a screen protector (I forget what it's called but it's the one with a year's warranty) in case I decide to get a Case Mate case fro my S3. The screen protector is great, you can't even tell it's on. - 07-19-2012, 09:48 AM #39Just because we play with different friends at recess doesn't mean we can't sit together at lunch.

One thing people might want to note when picking out cases is that if you want to use the turn phone over to mute calls and other features that involve turning the SG3 on it's face you want the case you get to have raised edges along the sides to avoid scratches. Investing in a good screen protector is also a good idea. I'm liking the incipio cases... For all case makers I've checked out I wish there were cases made in Pebble Blue as well as white, like the OEM Samsung Galaxy SIII. There are quite a few cases in white, none in Pebble Blue. I may go for Purple or Black.
The Pebble Blue looks almost black... but it still looks Pebble Blue and I like it because it's so different from everything else. - 07-20-2012, 09:33 AM #42
LOL. I refuse to leave the office with mine until it is protected with this: http://[Silver/Black]Incipio SA-310 ...se+Screen Film My wife and my gypsy/free spirit 23y/o daughter are brutal on any type of electronic device. So, I want it protected from my family. Each nick or scratch on any of my last 10 devices came from la familia. Katrina/Ike/Shuttle Recovery, etc...are no comparison to wife and daughter(looks over shoulder for female ninjas)
accidently causing damage. My wife's 9810 looks as if it has been in a war zone...even with a case.

Everyone on my team at work wants my phone! Today we were all lamenting about how 100+ degree weather is being forecast for several more days (108 on Sunday!!). I hadn't heard this, so I brought up the 10 day forecast on WeatherBug Elite, and sure enough. I groaned and said "Yep, look." A coworker held her hand out so she could see my phone. As soon as she held it she was like "Holy sh!t I want this phone! What is it?" Then everyone started passing it around saying the same thing. A couple of them wrote the name down!

I got the Incipio purple version of that case yesterday... and I'm going to have to return it! It is beautiful and I love it...however it's so slippery it makes me feel the phone's going to slide through my fingers, so weird. I was scared of dropping my phone while typing - and I was being careful. I really do wish it had a bit more grippiness, because it looks so sleek great on the the Pebble Blue phone. But for now, I've popped my previous Samsung cover case back on and am going in search of something with both beauty and grip.
Any suggestions are welcome. - 07-21-2012, 11:36 AM #46
Yikes!! I'm hoping it will be at least somewhat more grippy than the original battery cover lol. The purple was a good idea! I was really hoping they had a forest green color. That would have looked good against the blue.
Last night I went out with my bestie and his boyfriend. A few minutes after I sat down I pulled my phone out to check a notification. I set it down to pour a beer and my bestie grabbed it, then his bf grabbed it from him. He poked around the buttons, shrugged, and handed it back. He's an iPhone user lol.Just because we play with different friends at recess doesn't mean we can't sit together at lunch.

Here is one of the inexpensive cases I bought for mine. The other one was an orange one.
Samsung Galaxy SIII S3 I9300 Hard Case Snap On Phone Cover Green Rubberized Lux | eBay
It isn't a reinforced kind of case, but it does offer some protection and it is a two-piece, snap-together type. I prefer this type to the two-piece slip-together kind which will scrape the sides of the phone and so forth and over time will scuff it. I know this from using a slip-together case on my iPhone 4. Believe it or not, the hard aluminum sides got scuffed from just the few times I removed and replaced the case.
And I despise the skin cases, which allow dirt and dust to constantly scuff the body just because of their flexibility. Dirt and dust will squeegee in over time and cause damage. - 07-21-2012, 08:34 PM #48
I tried a snap-on case on my MyTouch 4G once. It was some no-name brand and it looked and felt cheap so I didn't keep it on for very long. The one you linked to looks VERY nice and pretty much what I'm looking for!!
I got my Incipio Feather today! It looks REALLY sharp! The silver and pebble blue look GREAT together. My only concern is that it seems rather difficult to take off, but of course I won't have to worry about that for awhile. I can't see myself wanting to change cases anytime soon. The case makes the phone keep a slender profile, but makes the device feel more solid. I wish I would've checked these cases out for my other devices instead of just using cheap TPU cases for them!Just because we play with different friends at recess doesn't mean we can't sit together at lunch.

Yeah, you have to be careful about which cases you buy on eBay. I bought a carbon fiber-look snap-together case from a different seller than the one these current cases came from and it wasn't painted well. The display surround was white and unpainted. The camera/LED/speaker holes on the back were also void of paint. I returned that one. But these other two are perfect, that I bought fro a different seller. They both have a very nice opalescent appearance and really, in my vision, enhance the look of the phone.

1. The ability to snap stills while recording 1080p video.
2. The news ticker on lock screen and the briefing setting on the alarm.
3. Widgets!
4. General power and performance. I can update multiple apps at a time and never have to reboot. No sluggishness or lag.
5. Nice large screen makes watching videos pleasant. Combined with flash this is extra awesome.
6. Customization. I've replaced the stock keyboard, browser and photo gallery to ones that fit my needs better. (swiftkey, dolphin and Quickpic respectively)
