If I currently own a BlackBerry, can I still post a comment here? Just kidding...
Anyway, I primarily use my iPhone 4S, but, I carry a BlackBerry BOLD 9900 to. When I leave my BlackBerry at home, I tend to miss the red notification light. Funny how something so small, can be so important to someone. In addition, the keyboard on the 9900 is simply brilliant. I type so quick on that thing, as well as using the shortcuts, that it is scary.

I'm getting used to most things on my Vivid. The things that come to mind that really annoy me are:
-The inability to dial a phone # from a calender event. There is a work around, but it's not safe at 60mph.
-The inability to dial a phone # from notes in contacts.
-This one is huge....The gmail app sux azz......I really, really, really miss the BB email app. I've been told they're 3rd party apps out there but they all have some sort of deficiency.
Seriously, other than flash media, I can't think of anything my Vivid does better than my 9810. I just can't bare to go back to a puny screen.
I honesty hope BB10 is everything it's said to be, and what I hope it will be. I really wanna get "back in black"

I put those ppl's email & phone # in "notes" in the contact info. I can't dial any of those #'s or send an email from a contact note. I've given droid 2+ months. What it boils down to (for me) is: Droid is an awesome media device. It may "get'er done" for some......not for me.
I'm gonna sell my Vivid, buy a PB and bridge it w/my 9810 and IMPATIENTLY await BB10.

You can do a direct dial or direct message shortcut. With the direct dial, when you tap the icon it immediately starts dialing your contact. You can also have a direct contact icon that brings up the contact information when you tap it. However, to better utilize this there are several "people" widgets to choose from. You can create or select a group and when you tap on that icon the contact info comes up. As for the dialing/emailing a contact from the notes, this is something you can set up using that group function. It might not be the way you're used to doing it, but it's how to do it using this interface.
ETA: Here's how some of that stuff looks:

-I hated the fact that if I marked an email as unread, I'd never know how many unread I had. I could have 6 unread messages and not even know it. 3rd party apps didn't do it.
-You couldn't mark a txt as unread
-You can't call a phone # from a calendar entry.
These are ALL important to me. More important than a better web browser and pretty apps.
I'm relieved to be back on my 9810 with a 64gig PlayBook. Patiently awaiting BB10.
Droid is a great OS, the Vivid is a great device....IF they work for you.
At the end of the day, BB is, FOR ME, a more business oriented device.
What I miss about blackberry? EVERYTHING....except the FB app. |

What I miss about blackberry? EVERYTHING....except the FB app. | Maybe things are different now with ICS, i'm not sure..but if I mark an email as unread in Gmail, I can see it by the counter in the top corner. Here's a screenshot (the 2 indicates I have 2 unread emails..which were read, but I "unread" them lol):
In the stock ICS launcher..it doesn't show me a "number count", but again, if you open the app it's there. I'm still trying to figure out why you'd read an email, just to mark it unread though (or a text message).. Especially when you can Star it or mark it important for viewing later..
EDIT: Just checked the "dialing from Calendar" issue..and again..maybe it's solved in ICS now. Here's a screenshot showing a calendar entry with a phone number in the Memo, which is highlighted blue allowing me to tap it and dial it.
This was using Jorte for my Calendar app..but for some reason I think I tried this on my Atrix and it wasn't able to..so I'm thinking it could be a new addition to ICS (which is awesome imo)

I'll read an email or txt at a stop light and need to address it later and mark it as unread. Also, separate in boxes drives me nuts.

I even figured out how to get the badges onto the mail app. My speed is 18.81mbps download, here in Sarasota, and i couldn't be happier. Much better than my Bold9000, but if you're happy, that's the main thing. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
