Default update?

I am new to the android world and was wondering how person is to know there is a system update and how do you perform them? I'm used to apple and you connect it to itunes. Is it anything like that?

Which phone do you have? Go to menu, settings and look for software update. I'm on an HTC Thunderbolt and that's how I do it on my phone.

If it's a large update..you'll generally be warned and prompted to use wifi. After download..basically click and watch it install.

As soon as you root , kies will not recognize your phone anymore. You can upgrade using Odin .
