Default Still trying to make the switch...I little email help PLEASE

I'm still on BB but I'm trying to switch. Most everything I've found a work around for.
One thing that's a real deal breaker for me now is: on a BB, you can mark an email "unread" and it will show on you're home screen as an unread email, but not a new one. When a new email comes through, a little red star will show.
On android, is there a way to mark email as unread, have them show as....7 unread email, and a distinguishing way to know you have a new email?

My system is: when I'm out in the field, I'll get some email I need to address in my office, or at a later date. I mark these as unread and deal with them later. Some email I read and forget, or answer. This is why I really NEED a way to mark email as "unread" and still know when I get a new one.

You ex crackheads will know what I mean.

On my daughters GS2....you can mark an email unread, it shows a little folder on the home screen, but you don't know when you get a new one.

PLEASE HELP!!!! This is my last hurdle

I don't understand. The standard Android mailbox lets you mark an email as unread and still receive new mails, so what's the problem?

There are third party mail clients for Android, such as K-9 (open source, free) and Kaiten (paid, but inexpensvie), that are more versatile than the stock email client. You may want to look into those to see if they do what you want.

Personally, I miss the BB prompt to delete mail on the handheld only, but leave it on the server. This can be very handy, and as far as I know it can't be done in Android.
