Samsung Epic 4G launching August 11th, Sprint stores to open early? « Boy Genius Report
BGR: One of our Sprint sources has just given us a heads up that the Samsung Epic 4G will be released on Sprint on August 11th…The source goes on to say that this information is located in the Sprint playbook, and some stores will be opening at 8:00 AM on launch day to meet expected demand. August 11th, one day before the reported DROID 2 launch and the BlackBerry Torch 9800 launch… who is planning on purchasing an Epic 4G?

Coming from a 9630, I picked up an Evo last night. I played with it for about 4 hours yesterday and was stifled by the battery life. Everything on this phone is top notch and miles ahead of my old 9630. Despite me draining the battery by figuring the device out, the Evo truely is an amazing smartphone. I was also eyeing the Epic after I ruled out leaving Sprint and going to ATT for the 9800 or Captivate.
Now that I'm an Android Fanboy, I need to decide whether to keep the Evo or try the Epic. I love the look of the Epic and the fact you get more viewing space while utilizing the slide out keyboard. If the Samsung logo wasn't at the bottom, the screen size would easily be the same as the Evos (but that is only minor)
I'm also looking to compare the WiFi signal in the Epic to the Evo, the AMOLED screen, and the camera. The Evo's camera is amazing, but I've taken great shots with a 5mp camera as well. I'll need to go into the Sprint store and check it out. The great thing about a slider on display is that you can get an idea of its durability because so many customers are handling it in a short period of time. Maybe a week after its release we'll see how these demo units are holding up.Last edited by Law2138; 08-06-2010 at 01:17 PM.

Epic appears to be *the* device that will get the rest of us BBM and blackberry addicts off the fence and on a platform developed this century.
Evo was missing the display, physical keyboard and DLNA streaming to really push me out of BBM... going to be google talk and a 4g connection for me - 08-06-2010, 03:55 PM #57

I had liked it but my screen was seperating in the lower left hand corner & the dust was building up so I returned it. Sprint didn't have any replacements for me so I then got the 9650. It was ok but I couldnt see myself using my upgrade for it since its not THAT much different then the Tour (especially with no released date for BBOS6 for cdma, only rumored early next year at that time) so I returned that too & went back to my 9630 now awaiting the Epic 4G.

I really plan on checking this one out. Coming from BB, having the option of virtual or keyboard is great for me. I always question whether my big thumbs can handle a touch screen keyboard.
Regarding the slider, my daughter has the Palm Pre and to date she hasn't complained about the weakness of slider porion after use...& she sends at least 80-100 texts per day. In my experiences, Samsung has always been a solid phone for durability and call quality. - 08-11-2010, 03:31 PM

Hoping for Bestbuy to start preorders but no one there knows anything about it. Radioshack salesman said they'll start this Friday though. Of course it'll be $50 to reserve one but at least they'll give an instant rebate. Got my Sprint reservation also just in case lol.

Epic 4G, Dual keyboards?
Does this phone also gv you the option of a touchscreen keyboard? I have yet to find that info. If so, this Evo will be returned.

I returned EVO to Rshack a couple days ago due to Bad Volume lever & light leakage.
While their I pre-Ordered Epic but now having doubt Its the phone for me.
Samsung lack of Updates , lack of Custom Rom builders & 512MB RAM make me un-comfe.
hmm not sure what to buy, EVO or Epic
