Google has already offered voice actions. Not as extensive as Siri, but they can get stuff done. People hardly use it though.

I REALLY hate talking to automated customer service..so if Siri is anything like that..well..no need to elaborate on that.
Automated Operator: "Please tell me why you are calling"
    Me: "Pay Bill"
AO: "I'm sorry, I don't recognize that selection, please try again"
    Me: "PAY BILL"
AO: "You have selected Technical Support, if that is correct, say "correct"
    Me: "NO!! PAY BILL!!"

You get my drift I'm sure Apple will have done a much better job..but software is software..and it always glitches out at the worst opportune time lol..

I have a feeling it works much better than the software running automated responses.

Yeah, it works well from what I've seen and read. I just don't know how practical it will be to use it in public. In the car or at home, I guess it's plausible.

Agreed. I don't see myself talking to my device in public. Unless someone says something and I want to record it real quick. Otherwise for me, it would be in the car, or in house use to set things up.

I hardly ever use voice activities on my Android. When I have, it works fairly well.

Siri looks like it works well on YouTube, however it is just another great marketing strategy that only Apple could twist and make it seem as it is brand spanking new. They have been doing that ish for years. ...

I say OP go with the SG2 as it is and will be an amazing phone.

Apple dropped the ball with the iP4s IMHO.

I'm currently upgrade eligible on Sprint. Currently have an Evo for over a year. If the next Nexus phone doesn't make its way to Sprint by the end of the year, I'm picking up the 4s.

Siri does have the potential to be a deal breaker, over anything Ice Cream Sandwich can ever provide, or at least that's what's indicated, at this point. I would need to know more about Ice Cream Sandwich before drooling over the hardware behemoth many Android devices are becoming. Driver build quality makes or breaks hardware reputation (see Nvidia vs. ATI, historically [the latter still hasn't figured this out, despite being bought by AMD]).

Also, I look for something to change the way UIs are seen, and experienced. If ICS is merely 95% based on honeycomb, I don't think it's worth slapping version #4 onto it. Then, again, I could be proven wrong. But, again, it depends on how well Siri works out within its intended contexts. Siri's advertised features could potentially be a litmus test, against which, ICS is judged - like it or not.

Default Samsung galaxy s2 or iPhone 4s? Reply to Thread

I recently had the same question. I am on AT&T and had an iphone 4 that I sold it for $400, so I could upgrade to any phone on AT&T. I was disappointed that Apple did not release a phone with a larger screen, so I decided to try the GS2. Now, I have no brand loyalty and don't own any other Apple products, so I just want the best device for me. Just figured I'd share my experience with others and maybe help someone out in making the decision. Although, the GS2 is definitely nice and has it's good points, I returned it and pre-ordered the iphone 4s. Below are my pros and cons for the GS2 in no particular order, in my opinion and user experiences; the cons being why I decided to return it.

    Pros:
-4.3" beautiful display: there is a con related to the display, below
    -Very light
-Very configurable out of the box (i.e. widgets, haptic feedback, live wallpaper, and many apps and features that Apple will not allow (can we say JAILBREAK?).
    -Video looks almost stunning
-Not tied to itunes, very easy to import/export data and make ringtones
-Has navigation right out of the box
-User replaceable battery and micro SD slot
    -Very fast on WiFi

    Cons:
-If you are on a white background and view the display from almost any angle, other than dead on, all of the white turns blueish (many complaints of this on the Galaxy S2 that I was not aware of until noticing it)
-Took it off of WiFi and internet would not connect, sometimes. First time I tried for about 5 min., turned WiFi on and back off again and finally internet would connect, but very slow speeds; almost as if it were on EDGE. Tried speed tests and it showed EDGE speeds (also, many complaints of this on the Galaxy S2 that I was not aware of until noticing it)
-WiFi signal strength was very weak, compared to iphone 4 at any givin distance. It was down to one bar before I even made it to the garage and would be intermittent when I got too far away from my router. Not acceptable. My iphone 4 would not go down to one bar, until after I got outside and would connect anywhere on my property (even down the road aways)
-Battery charging. This is a big one. Battery life was pretty good, but it took forever to charge, as compared to the iphone 4. I would estimate that it probably took twice as long to charge to a givin percentage, from a givin percentage
-The phone is rather large, making it difficult to navigate while holding in one hand; and I have larger than average hands
-Could not move the home/applications icon (bottom right icon). Maybe there's a way, but I could not figure it out
-Call quality/volume/clearity was just not quite as good as my iphone 4 (I only use in Orlando where signal is very strong). This was one of the biggest cons, as I first judge a phone by this. I mean, it is a phone, right?
-And, finally, build quality. This is a touchy subject. Anything with glass will shatter if you drop it right. Iphone 4/4s has glass on front and back, which is a con to me. But, I always use a case. My iphone 4 survived many drops from 3-6 feet onto tile, only because I had a Speck Candyshell on it that cushioned the glass. The iphone 4 is a very sturdy phone and built like a rock, if you take the glass shattering out of the picture. The GS2 seemed very flimsy. I flexed the one at AT&T store and it seemed like I would be able to just bend it until the glass shattered, or something else broke. I ride a motorcycle with my phone in my front jeans pocket and do many things where my phone might get flexed. That was not appealing to me. It just seemed like no matter what comparable case I could have on it, it would be prone to getting, what I would consider, over flexed. The iphone 4 does not flex because of the machined aluminum frame around it.

So, in short, I am giving up the 4.3" display and going back to a puny 3.5" display for a phone that works better for me. In my opinion, a jailbroken iphone 4s will be very comparible to the GS2, without the 4.3" display. But, also, without all of the above cons.
Hope this helps somebody out and hope I didn't bore anybody.

I love my S2. By far the best phone i have owned so far. My 9900 is still in the the drawer and sold my iPhone 4 last month. Loaded a nice custom rom and kernel and great battery life here. Only complaint is lack of LED notification. Other then that the phone is simply amazing. Absolutely no connection probs here as the previous poster. maybe a bug in the stock OS for ATT.

Vlingo is okay. There is also Voice Actions (by Pannuous) that has more options than Vlingo. I was watching the Siri demo video and trying the same commands with Voice Actions. It handled almost every command that was given to Siri.

I use my 9900 as my daily driver, I do own a iP4 and a SG2, and the SG2 is so much better(IMO). My iP4 sits in the drawer and the SG2 comes out usually on the weekends. Obviously haven't tried an iP4S, but for a touchscreen device, the SG2 is simply amazing in every way, I cannot see you going wrong with it, and the extra screen real estate is a huge plus.

I just bought an iPhone 4S even though I said that I wouldn't. I like my phone tech though so I felt that I had to get it. The phone seems slightly faster than my iPhone 4. Siri is really cool. Wondering how much I would really use it. The big winner is IOS 5. I like the changes that Apple has made with the software. The camera is awesome. Best thing for me is that I am finally on Verizon. Can't believe that I get full bars almost everywhere I go. I have already adjusted to the smaller screen size. One of the things that I have noticed that I like better on the iPhone compared to the SGSII is the typing experience. For some reason the screen on the SGSII isn't nearly as accurate. I assumed that with a larger keyboard that I would be faster and more accurate. But I struggled when typing in it. I downloaded some other Android keyboards but none of them produced the accuracy that I was looking for. I am ver accurate and fast with the iPhone.

I'm actually thinking about doing that. I just have to make sure that my upgrade isnt one of those that I have to use by 12/31 because of the sprint changes.

I find that the SG2 gets laggy after loading it up with apps and the marketplace is VERY laggy.

Out of the box, I think the iPhone4S is better as its more refined. Whereas the SG2 is better if modified (rooted, and custom roms kernels etc etc).

For me, I don't have time to read on XDA about what roms are good and what I need to do to get it better, so the iPhone4S is better for me.

Also, i feel the SG2 is too big to type with 1 hand. I can't reach the other side of the phone while typing if I'm holding it with one hand which sometimes is needed.

SG2 voice recognition isn't accurate at all, and I need to speak very clearly and slowly, whereas SIRI I can speak normally and it'll understand my 100% (SIRI is still in BETA, so I assume it'll just get better).

So at the end of the day, if you like FULL customization go with an Android device like the SG2 (not refined out of the box, but has huge potential if you want to mod it).

If you want something to work great out of the box and use APPS to fill the void for customization, iPhone4S seems to be the winner imo.

I'm also very surprised at how fast the PUSH email is on the iPhone4S. I'm using a BB 9900 and I actually get emails faster. I'm on the verge of switching permanently to the 4S or keeping the 9900....

Also, the iPhone4S takes wicked FAST pictures. The SG2 takes some time.....

Fair assesment overall. I will say a couple things though. As far as the Marketplace goes..I don't think it's an SGSII thing..but rather a general Android thing right now. They just updated the Market recently..and I've noticed it painfully slow sometimes as well on my Atrix. And as far as the customization goes..you don't need to read up on XDA and install custom ROM's and Mods in order to experience the true Android flavor. Simply install various launchers, different icons, themes, different sms and im programs, different keyboards etc. The list is endless..even without rooting. THAT is what Android is all about imo. XDA is great..but not necessary.

That stuff you mentioned at the end is only for front end . Wait until you get to mess with partitions, and mount points: that's where the fun begins
