Samsung galaxy s2 or iPhone 4s?
I am up for upgrade in a couple of months and my mind was pretty much set with the galaxy but now that the iPhone 4s is to be released I am undecided, I currently have an iPhone 4. I'm just getting bored with not being able to customize, widgets for example, without jailbreaking. I've been reading some comparisons and it sounds like the samsung will be the better device. What do you guys think? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nexus Prime.

If you don't like your iPhone then you can move back to Android. The 4S isn't a big enough upgrade to make it worth your while, esp. when you can get iOS 5 on your phone and get all the current goodies.

SGSII > 4S imo .
I'm thinking of getting the white SGSII myself but just wondering if its not too "girlie" for me.

I'd buy nearly ANY android phone in lieu of ANY version of an iPhone. while I like my Bionic just fine, the Sammy S2 and Prime are/should be excellent phones. I've already seen the S2--it doesn't have quite the audio quality of the Bionic and isn't as easy to see in bright sunlight, but other than that, it's a great phone IMO. Early reports on Nexus claim it's even better, so how can u go wrong?

Actually I would prefer pink. Kidding!!
I went and take a look at the white sgs yesterday but they (bell) weren't allowed to sell it till today. It's a nice piano finish white. I just never had a white phone before but you're right, shouldn't be too embarrassing.

I'm just as big an iPhone fan as one can get but the 4S is an incremental upgrade and once again it will be behind the competition even on release day. There are android devices with better specs, better functionality and bigger screens (deal breaker IMO). iPhone's 3.5 inch screen was good for 2007 but not today.
If you need a new device right now then go for the SGS2
Even though the SGS2 is AT&T's dest device IMO I'm not sure I'd recommend it since AT&T should be coming out with LTE devices in the near future. I'm gonna hold on to my Atrix until then. - 10-07-2011, 12:11 PM #9
Depends on what you want. If you want a great software/hardware experience out of the box, go iPhone 4S. I find the iPhone 4 on iOS 5 to be smoother than an SGS2 with my playing around with the device. Can't stand touchwiz.
If you want excellent hardware and the ability to customize the **** out of the device and maintain software stability on your own (ROMs, custom kernels etc..) then get the Android device.
Can't go wrong with either. -

Isn't touchwiz basically like iOS? Thus all the suing..

If you were just a general user..i'd suggest the iphone for sure (unless you wanted a bigger screen). However..the fact your tired of Apples walls tells me you're ready for a change..in which case the SGSII would be the only Android to get imo at the moment, that is unless you're on Verizon and can wait for the Nexus Prime."Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all." -Sam Ewing

Completely agree. I'm totally disappointed that they stuck with the tiny 3.5" screen. I mean..it's marginally bigger than the Torch (slider)..which I found way to small. I know it's all personal preferance..but had they gone with a 4" screen..I could've found myself using an upgrade on the 4S, and once I was bored with it sell it and make some money. I suppose I still could just for isht and giggles..but meh.

iPhone is appealing in some ways, but then I wake the @$%! up and realize it's Apple. Having my device locked down and being nickel n' dimed on everything is not in my agenda.

It tries to be, but it's not quite there. Stock, the smoothest you will get with Android to iOS 5 is Vanilla 2.3. ICS on the Prime video looks slick as well. Currently out of all the devices I have played with, iOS 5 on the iPhone 4 is the smoothest. The beauty of Android though is that f you do a little tinkering, you can basically have the same exact thing of better.
I am sure many Sense devices are smooth as well, but I have found Vanilla Android to always be faster. - 10-07-2011, 01:50 PM #14
Going from the screen on my Droid X to my iPhone 4 really wasn't that big of a deal, especially since the iPhones screen is nicer. 3.5 is smaller but I have never had a problem viewing anything yet that pinch to zoom doesn't fix.
That being said, I woud love a 4" screen. 4.3 was nice but I think 4" is the sweet spot. However, if the Prime is done correctly and doesn't feel huge, I will be all over it. LTE will be in my area soon and I would love to use it. - 10-07-2011, 08:52 PM #15
I wouldn't get another iPhone until an LTE iPhone was launched.

iPhone 4S hands down. Siri makes Android look like a kid that has been huffing paint, dumb.

Dude, the iOS platform is so far beyond android it isn't even funny. Apps in the bot market run like crap half the time, and it is like frees central and bootin like putin. Retna still kills the rushed crap of Android.
What is the point of a dilapidated (don't know what that word means but it is COOL) display? Software is king, and Android falls flat on its cheap advertising eat your data face in that depo.

Yeah, you're not biased at all.

Besides I have a SGSII and a Bionic and a Droid X. Bionic is a worthless browsing experience. SGSII and the iPhone run together, butter, but android apps fail so hard.

I'll take fail apps over fail UI anyday.

I agree, the software experience makes a huge difference. The higher the clock speed, and more cores mean nothing if the software isn't as good as the hardware.
This is why I am really hoping Google makes the Motorola purchase into something special. In house software and in house hardware can really elevate Android to an even higher level.
We will see eventually.Last edited by avt123; 10-08-2011 at 10:12 AM.

I bet my money the majority of users don't use the majority of the features available on smartphones in general.
It doesn't matter. It's just another thing they can say they have. The amount of use does not matter. They can still use it as a selling point, and it could be just another reason for someone to buy it (even if they really don't need it).
I can see this being extremely useful while driving. Although the majority of people I see on the road still don't use handsfree devices.
