Don't see where this would "out date" RIM's new device... whatever the spec in up being. This is just going to be bigger. Not sure how many people will want a phone this size... but it will sell to those that want both a tablet and a phone.

I think that RIM is going to have the Hardware on track... maybe not the fastest, but at least not a year or two behind like they have been in the past. And hopefully they will have QNX/BBX FULLY READY for prime time by then.

I just don't see anyone in the average consumer mindset wanting a phone that big. I can't imagine how poor battery life is going to be on such a massive device!

I don't think I am alone on this but I like to be able to have my phone in my pockets and enough room for maybe some more! I really think these 4"+ screens are getting way too big. The biggest phone I'd ever consider would be 4".

I am hoping that RIM is coming up with some real top notch hardware and BBX being something new and fresh. I have hope they can do this!

The size alone is a turn off. If this phone was the exact size of the international Galaxy S2 then it would be much more appealing.

I want a smartphone, not a mini tablet. Anything over 4.3" is too big on a phone for me IMO. I'm interested in the Galaxy Nexus, but I have to see how it feels since it is a 4.65" screen. It's design is different though.

cool idea...not too small for a tablet (for say reading bookets/ playing games) but as a phone? my hand would cramp up holding it for a while.. needs a hand strap on the back

This thing is a good idea for sure. As a dude, that thing is way to big for my pockets. But I already know people that would prefer a much bigger screen and just toss it in their purses. It may cater to females more then males, or people who carry around a bag all the time. I wouldn't discount it for the size. It serves a market. I don't think BlackBerry could or should compete with this yet, if ever though. Just make a great phone for the masses now.

I think that's just too big. I find my iPhone4S screen to be perfect. I'm a woman and don't have to worry too much about fitting a phone in my pocket, just my handbag. But I still wouldn't want a mini-tablet as a phone. I find the iPhone4S screen to be a great mix -- not too big, not too small and extremely crisp and clear.

If you *just* want another smartphone, then this is just too big. If you want to consolidate devices and have a decent device with ample screen real-estate, then this is the way to go.

I'm into consolidating. I have a feeling that this is just the beginning of all things smaller .....

Problem is it's not as good as either individually, but rather mediocre for both (too large for a phone, too small for a tablet).

Yeah it's a consolidation, but I doubt most would take that tradeoff for the reason above, especially with tablet sales already taking off.

I'd like to see one in person. I like large screens, provided it's something I can manage to carry on my person without too much hassle.

Oooh... A real stylus! A shame the thing is gigantic.

Doesn't RIM have a patent on a hybrid capacitive / resistive touch sceen?
