This is not BlackBerry related, but could be of high interest if turns to be true, what do you think??

Samsung Confirms Plan to Begin Inching Away From Android

Googles (GOOG) white-hot Android operating system will be the center of Samsungs business for years to come. For the Samsung we know today, Android is a perfect match.
It provides a solid foundation and a host of terrific functions, and it gives Samsung the freedom to drop its own software and solutions on top. For the Samsung of the future, though, this might not be the best possible model.

Samsung may be approaching a point where it wants to take more complete ownership of the mobile experience it offers customers. Today, Galaxy phones offer Samsungs mobile experience combined with Googles mobile experience. Tomorrow, the electronics giant might look to eliminate or at least change half of that equation.
One way to accomplish this would be to adopt a new OS over which it has more control. Tizen, for example, may turn out to be a workable option. Reports that Samsung plans to launch Tizen phones in 2013 from earlier this week have now been confirmed by Bloomberg Businessweek, and Samsung has said that it plans to launch multiple Tizen phones this year.
These will be regional devices, however, just like their Bada-powered predecessors were before them. Samsung will likely consider extending Tizens reach if these phones find success in Eastern markets, though it remains to be seen whether or not this is a long-term play with global reach.
But the bottom line is that Samsung is inching away from Android. If not Android as a platform, then Android in its current state at the very least.
As 2013 progresses, watch for signs that Samsung may be following in Amazons (AMZN) footsteps. A skin and some sharing features arent going to cut it if Samsung really wants to own the user experience from beginning to end. It will need a much more highly customized version of Android with its own content services, its own app store and more.
Or, Samsung can stay on its current path, relying on a company that is planning to launch its own full-scale attack on the Android market to supply it with software and services.

That would be nice for both, consumers and blackberry. This is because its the end of the line for android, its slowly becoming boring like ios.

Samsung did not openly "confirm" anything. The article is a combination of speculation and sensationalist media.

i highly doubt they will "inch" away from android. Its a complete cash cow for them. They have the note and galaxy series which sell incredible amounts beyond any other phone besides the iphone. They might adopt another OS to sell along side but it would be just that, along side. They have been doing that already with their own OS, BADA.

I wonder if they've seen data that suggests it's ok to start considering it? I've often wondered how many Android buyers in the general populous know or care that they bought an Android phone? I suspect that a chunk of those Samsung Galaxy customers went to the store and asked for the Samsung Galaxy and not the "Samsung Android Phone" and don't really know or care what it's running.

Microsoft would probably love it if Samsung stuck Windows Phone on a product and called it "Samsung Galaxy".

Yep, companies don't generally run away from their bread and butter. Well, most don't.

I think Samsung doesn't mind dipping its toes into numerous pools, and is prudently comfortable with options. For now? I think they'll stick to Android as their go-to OS.

samsung will simply merge bada and tizen to create cheap(er) phones for emerging markets... even if you just consider the huge market share of android, they would be crazy to leave the os

I'm pretty sure people even iheads can think of Android when they think of Samsung on the fact of Samsung is carrying the Android torch for a lil while now and the main frontrunner against apple
