Wanting to preorder my droid to avoid being empty handed on friday but I keep hearing mixed things.
I have to actually cancel my contract and resign to get the best deal on the droid.... so idk if that will affect my ability to preorder.
Anyways:
I called verizon yesterday, she couldn't give me a price on the droid at all. Numerous sites say 200 after 100 dollar rebate. I also read the 100 dollar rebate is a visa gift card. Then on here, I read it's an instant rebate.
What's the cheapest/best way to get this damn phone? I want it, I absolutely hate and have hated my storm since day 1.
Also, are there any other phones rumored to be coming out that have a full touch screen and slide out qwerty keyboard? Don't want to have to jump the droid ship in 3 months due to a better phone coming out.
If you purchase the phone off their website, you can pick it up for $199 after a $100 instant rebate or get it in stores for $299 with a $100 mail in rebate.
If you are planning on pre-ordering, do it quick. I stopped by a local BestBuy today to see if they had a dummy unit and they said that their store is done taking pre-orders. I think it may have been around twenty. YMMV

This is probably dependent on where you live, I went to my BB early afternoon. I was number 10 for a pre-ordered phone.
BB preorder... what is the deposit... and then what is their rebate?
I had to put $50 down, used my BB card for it, the charge will be put towards the phone cost. The rebate is an instant $ 100 off, thus bringing cost to $ 199 and other start up charges, etc.
i just did a little more research. BB is doing 199, with instant rebate. what other charges do they hit you with at BB for signing a new two year contract?
and jkunk- yes i know there is a cancellation fee. but it is cheaper to pay 375, rather than the full retail price of 600.
I went to my local Verizon store in State college a couple days ago (so you can look up the store and call if you like) and they told me the Droid price was $199 and the two docs are 29.99 each.

so basically i could get the droid through BB for 199 + fl sales tax?
Can't gaurantee they'll waive start up charges, and other fee's if your doing an early upgrade. But, that should be the bulk of your charges. I pd less than $ 300 when I purchased the S1 last year, in fact I had to buy a few more items to reach the $ 300 mark.
i was thinking id have to cancel to get around not being able to early upgrade. are you sure about that?
Depends - if you're buying from a Best Buy store, and are eligible for an upgrade, there's the early upgrade fee, the activation fee, and that's probably it. But yes, the 2-year pricing is $200 after rebates (which Best Buy gives you instantly).
i actually just got back from BB and i preordered. It didn't seem very official though, I mean the guy just basically made me fill out a flyer and pay $50. And i asked if this guarantees me a phone, and when they open friday. He didn't really have many words for me.

I also just got back from Best Buy. When I asked to pre order the Droid the guy told me that they would take my pre order but that I might not get the phone till the 2nd shipment cuz they already have 30 pre orders. He had me fill out the form and I purchased the $50 gift card. I walked out with the gift card and the receipt. I don't see a number or anything on my receipt so when I show up Friday morning will they sell me a phone or will they make me wait until the first 30 people show up?? I would've pre ordered earlier but I had to sell my Tour first!
