    Thanks

Check out XDA-Developers for all your rooting and modification needs.

Droids are plenty fast, but people are always hungry for more.

Yep I would say they are slow..... I can run faster than your Porsches........ in my dreams!

And the BB defections keep on comin! Ouch.

I wonder how many people are jumping from Android to BB? *crickets*

Like it said in the CNBC article I posted, RIM is bleeding customers to Android and iOS. They need a re-invention of their OS.

If u have to do anything foreign to a phone, its not worth the upgrade or spending the money at all. I thought the droids were fast enough already?, I guess not.

Says the person who uses a phone that you have to shrink the OS, download a battery pull app, and install hybrid and unsigned OS' to gain functionality. Thats great! Oh the irony.

People don't NEED to root. People do it because they want to take modifying to the extreme or they want certain apps that don't come from Android market.

I've heard that for example, the evo can take an expansion card. However, so could my blackberry but you couldn't utilize any themes or apps if they were on the memory card. You had to put them on the internal memory in order to work. Is this different on the droid? Can you use programs right off the card?

With the Froyo 2.2 update this will be native with Android but as of now you just need to root your phone and load up a ROM that supports/enabled A2SD (Apps to SD) and your set.

I might join you with that one, but I hate the phone market, I really do.

Apparently 'Gingerbread' will be at the end of the year (probably the same damn time 9800 decides to release) and if they don't know if 2.2 (Froyo) will be able to support the current phones, then Gingerbread sure can't.
They already announced the recommended (not minimum, but optimal) hardware requirements for Gingerbread, and several current and many upcoming announced phones meet that standard. So its safe to buy most of the higher end devices now be able to update.

Oops just got my EVO yesterday and realized that there is no Bluetooth call origination. This blows my mind as this is not new technology and you can do everything via BT on this device but no BT voice-dialing. Apparently it is an Android issue

I live in California were talking or texting is against the law without a hands free device. Plus it is just not safe anyway.

How are you all dealing with this? Just got my EVO yesterday and this could be a real deal killer...YIKES i really like it otherwise

I used the HTC Sync and lost the majority of my outlook contacts. I know what I did wrong because earlier I ended up with duplicate contacts on the EVO after syncing and manually removed all of them.

Fortunately I still have my Blackberry with Desktop Manager so I can recover my contacts and Calendar. But I want to make sure I configure things the right way so this does not happen again.

Right now I am not on Exchange so I can use either a Google Sync or the HTC sync and I probably would prefer HTC.

I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me how to do this I have only had this phone 24hrs and it is my first Android device.

    Thanks so much...

So I actually jumped ship and got a Droid X. I waited in line for the store to open. 2 days later I was back returning it and re-activating my Storm (1). There is no doubt that the Droid X is an impressive phone, but in my opinion, I prefered the BB. The e-mail and messaging is far better on the BB. You have to spend a lot of time setting up the Droid (It has 7 home screens!). And the Android Marketplace does have a ton of useful apps, it is also full of smut/porn apps. Which if you're into that, good for you. The problem is you cannot filter it out. Android Marketplace doesn't filter anything and you cannot remove or lock the Marketplace on the phone. With only 4 clicks you can find all sorts of adult material. I can't always keep an eye on my phone and with 3 boys (10 and under) that live for video games, my phone is always a temptation. I've also heard that between 20-25% of the Android apps have some sort of spyware embedded in them. So for now I'll keep my S1, waiting patiently for the S3 hoping that RIM realizes what thay are up against and create a phone that can compete.

I heard that too. That's why all these new devices coming out every other week, can't help to think about the movie "Enemy of the State", people are watching, lol.... kidding

But by the android app market place still being new, its easy to corrupt them at this point.

Oh man you do not know what your missing! it isn't about just overclocking but you can modify soooooo much stuff on your phone. The droids are good out of the box but once you root it is like a whole new world and it is really addicting! lol

Yep, if you get a text just click on the mic and speak and it will type it for ya. All you gotta do is send. Which reminds me that would be a next great update. I wish I could just say send and it would send after I spoke my message.

I have downloaded many apps and i haven't gotten one spyware yet. If they are out there they are usually most likely attached to the adult content 9which I don't download). I am sure eventually they will have away to filter those types of apps. I love the face it has so many screen, but with settings you can decrease the amount of screens you want to scroll through. I can understand about your boys though.

You are the first person I have heard of that doesn't like Androids customization. You don't need to use 7 screens. But if you knew more abut Androids customizing capabilities, you would have know that.

I returned my Droid X and am waiting for a 9650. Email is of utmost concern for me, followed by phone, texting, web browsing(hopefully helped by OS6), then all the other minor things like calendar and notes etc...

The Droid, while having an awesome browser and great touch screen, frustrated me with the email setup. I work part-time at a few colleges and the Exchange would not work with the X. I even tried everything, downloaded different email apps etc...The Blackberry gives options to delete on mailbox and handheld, handheld only, or cancel, and that for me is imperative. On the X I could go into my email accounts via the web, but that defeats the purpose. Until a droid phone can duplicate the BB email experience, I'm staying with BB. It works for what I need it for.

Only had this a day and a half and I will never go back!

Sure I have had the usual challenges with learning curve but have found a work around for any issues including email which is now just as good as BB, and syncing Outlook is a bit of a multi-pronged thing... but the rest of what this device does is well worth it.

It really is an incredible technological tool that is also a terrific phone. i do not think I will ever have to have my laptop leave the house again and I can sell my Ipod and Kindle....YEAH

thanks to all of you who provided me encouragement to make this switch!
