Default Just got my Desire S

Right guys please help me as I've been a Blackberry man for 7 years, here's the issues I face can anyone please help:

- My yahoo account won't set up, it say's invalid username or password but they're both correct? Could this be something to do with when I had my BB and set up latitude on it, I'm sure I had to do something to my yahoo to associate it with google?

- Battery is poor, I got my phone yesterday and charged it for four hours continuously but less than 16 hours later the yellow warning light is on, fair enough its been used a fair bit downloading a few apps and setting up a few social accounts but not what I'd class as heavy use, but Id expect better than that. Or does the battery calibrate itself over the first few uses or does anyone have any tips for preserving battery life?

- How do I close an app? For example Facebook all I can do to exit is use the back button, is this how I exit? I'm just wondering if I'm not exiting correctly, is this zapping power as it used to on the BB.

- Transferring my BB calendar hasn't worked at all, got all my contacts via the bluetooth transfer but not calendar yet my wife's worked fine!

Otherwise great phone, makes my BB9700 look like a tin can and piece of string.

Well, as far as importing calendar info, I'm a google calendar user, so I - personally - can't help you in that department.

To really force close an app (only if really really really acting up) is done through manage applications, and closing it there; don't use a task killer ever for 2.2 Android, and up.

Battery life, check your usage stats under settings -> about phone, and battery usage. You'll find what's taking the most in terms of percentage, but also look at time it's been actively on. I know downloading, and installing stuff can be taxing to the system from the radio use perspective; and the perspective of reading from, and writing to flash memory (there are no multiple read/write heads - nothing mechanical in them anyways -). You'll need to check with yahoo to see what snags are being encountered during log in/authentication.

To save battery, keep your social networking apps syncing at a minimum and screen brightness low.

As others have stated make sure you adjust your app syncing times to conserve battery. If you have twitters and Facebook updating every hour it will really run down your battery. I don't use any social networking, except Twitters very rarely so I have it not sync unless I open the app.

Apps don't need to be closed for the most part. The android OS is set up to kill tasks for you automatically if apps aren't being used. The ones you do use you an force close but that's not going to help with battery life.

Keep the screen at 50% brightness or less.

Check your weather sync intervals as well.

I like how in cm7-based ROMs, I can manipulate auto brightness.

Which email account is your calender synced to?

The HTC Mail app should have the ability for Yahoo mail...have you tried setting it up as an Exchange ActiveSync account?

Also, I know the Desire S got updated to Gingerbread + Sense 3.0, do you have that update?

Hi, I'm on gingerbread 2.3.3 and sense 2.1 how do I update sense? I've tried to set up as active sync but that won't work either,my wife has the same phone and her yahoo works fine and so does her calendar.

In battery usage 70% is screen so I've turned the brightness right down, but how do I adjust the social network synching? Same with weather synching?

So your wife as the Desire S and her calender/email work fine? Did you try changing your password to see if it would help?

For brightness, just set it to auto. It will automatically adjust to your lighting conditions. That's what I do. For social networks/weather, the options to how often it should sync in the background will be in the application settings.

You should be able to update by going to settings, about phone, then system updates. Check if the update has been pushed to your device. It should have been as Sense 3.0 + 2.3.5 had been released about two weeks ago for the Desire S.

Yes mate we both got new phones at same time and her Yahoo! set up fine and her calendar transferred from her old blackberry fine via Bluetooth so don't know where I've find wrong . I'm gonna try changing the password and see if that helps. I think I used my sky account for calendar on my BB on my desire its set up as gmail, can I change to sky and see if my appointments are there?

I'm definitely running gb 2.3.3 and sense 2.1and I've selected check for update but says none available? Will it come or can I 'push'it?

Hm, I guess the update hasn't been rolled out fully yet. I'd check once everyday, it'll get pushed to you eventually.

And yeah, you can try doing that. Remember set up your sky account as an Exchange account though.
