Yes, I don't root or I suppose I would have had it sooner. I'm not too excited though. Not sure what it will add. I'm happy with the device as It is except for battery life.

They will probably release it to so many phones per day so to not overload.

I HATE waiting on carriers for OS updates. They reduce the lifespans of devices -- not to mention they tinker with it and kill a radio or two. So... you wait patiently for the stock update and can be rewarded with broken GPS or 4G.

That alone is reason enough to root.

Or wait to get the device with the OS version you want. I made that mistake when I got the Vibrant with 2.1 with the promise that it would be updated to 2.2 "very soon."

I won't install the new OS update until I hear from many that it is stae and bug free. I'm patient.

That's why I love the devs in XDA, actively taking out the fly swatter if you will

XDA is the single most important tool in my life as an Android user. FANTASTIC resource. Those boys and gals are geniuses.

I absolutely love when they have a new update ready to go before the official iteration.

When I bought the Storm 2, I did the same thing in thinking it would get OS6, but as history tells us, it didn't get it ultimately. I learned my lessons: make sure the device has a good support history, make sure there's a community (particularly for android) to support it continuously (Before my Incredible, my lowly Droid was running Gingerbread 2.3.4), and find the OS YOU'LL like, as you're the one using it (I've tried AOSP, Sense, MIUI).

The average person who likes to tinker can seriously extend the life of an Android device. It is a true benefit.

    Thunderbolters: enjoy GB!

Off to flash this new battery saving kernel (ChopSuey).

For what devices does ChopSuey work on? I'm on the Incredible, and everyone's either all over Chad's incredikernel, or SBC (Superior Battery Charging) kernels, like Tiamat.

I am specifically using it because it is one of the few that works with Synergy ROM for EVO. I have heard good things about SBC though.

Exactly. Same thing goes with features. When I got my Vibrant I didn't like that it had 2.1 when there was a new version of Android out, it didn't have camera flash, and didn't have an LED notifier. I *really* wanted to like the Vibrant so I thought I was fine without these wants. Turned out I wasn't as fine as I thought, and the whole GPS fiasco made it worse. Now, when I get a device I make sure it's absolutely what I want and need.

What the heck!? I got up this morning and my Thunderbolt was updated! I mean, I guess I don't mind because I was sleeping and didn't have to watch it...but...how did it update without my approving it? Kinda of creepy.

All is working well so far.
