Default Galaxy S2 & mail.........

I went from a BB 8900 to the new GS2. I've had the phone for about 48 hours and have 'figured out' the Android platform and how to use it.

But, is anyone that uses the ActiveSync w/Exchange server (and any non-gMail mail for that matter) experiencing serious lag in (a) mail getting to the device mailbox and (b) the device running very slow when trying to open or delete mail on the device?

I set up a gmail acct (seems you have to if you want to use many of the features) and I've read that you should synch w/Google; then the devise & Google will synch. if that is correct, is there lag in doing so? I know Google wants all your data, but I'd rather not. But, if it means I get speed & performance by removing the ActiveSync, I suppose its worth considering.

Any info helpful.

I've never used Exchange personally with my Androids..but from what i've read/heard certain phones/brands seem to have issues with it. Usually they have trouble even getting connected period to it..let alone lag issues.

I know lots of people have tried Touchdown app with lots of success. There is a free version (limited) and a paid one. Might be worth a shot.

Try using K-9 for Exchange.

None for me. I used to use the HTC Mail app when I had Sense on my phone and it worked great, and it works great with Enhanced Email.

Has anyone used K9 or Touchdown? I can live with the current functionality; but the (lack of) speed is absurd for this phone. In fact, I think Google pooped the bed on this aspect (in relation to BB & Apple).

The problem was the actual phone. I sent it back and TMO sent me a new one. It performs much better.

But, I am looking for a better mail experience. Does anyone know if you can just sync calendar, contacts and tasks and NOT email? I cannot see a way to do it. Do the recommended 3rd party email apps (k9, enhanced email, touchdown) offer this flexibility?

I'll check later tonight, if you want. I think there's a trial version too. Just get it from the web, not market

I just d/loaded & installed EE. Set up was EZ. But, I don't see how you can select to only sync contact, calendar, tasks and no email.

Can you check your settings...maybe I am missing something.
