Default Galaxy S unable to use WhatsApp in UAE

Hi,

I live in UAE (Sharjah, near Dubai) and have Etisalt pay as you go mobile internet. I downloaded WhatsApp onto my Galaxy S and have sent numerous messages via the application, checking my account balance before and after. They charge me regardless of whether I use wireless or GSM. I tried deleting a digit of the message centre number and text messages refused to send at all, even by WhatsApp.

Knowing Etisalat, this is them being Etisalat - however, could it be a Whatsapp issue?

Etisalat do block Skype on my GSM - wireless works fine. Does anyone know if the provider DU blocks Skype / WhatsApp? I am fed up with Etisalat, if DU allow Skype / WhatsApp then I will change over to them.

Thanks,

Roy

Maybe your ISP routes traffic through a different port than 80?
