I have a family member moving from AT&T to Verizon. Would I be able to take the device from their line and put it on mine, or do these rules apply to that as well?

As long as it is a new activation I don't see how they could stop you. I think that the only people that will not be allowed to do this are the ones who use the "moved up" upgrade dates. Since yours would be from a new line, and they have never stopped people from doing it before, I think it would be OK.

I kicked my BB Storm to the curb early for a Moto Droid and haven't looked back. The only thing I miss from it is the text entry with the screen clicking and the alternate keyboard. My friends and family couldn't see how I could type so fast on it. Also my gf who was wanting a bb said sorry and also just got an HTC Hero and loves it. BB is loosing its market shares it seems every day to android phones.

Is it an early upgrade on a 2 year contract or just a regular upgrade on a 1 year contract? If it is an early upgrade then it does not count and won't be moved because your contract is not expiring until 2011 due to the 2 year thing. If your contract has an end date in 2010 they will move it.

I don't know if they will do anything for people who are on 1 year contracts.

So Verizon's so called early upgrade only benefits a select group of people.

Those with 1 year contracts get the early upgrade benefit if their contract expires between 9.16.2010 and 12.31.2010. Anyone expiring between 7.15.2010 and 9.15.2010 should already be eligible since it will be 10 months since they signed the contract.

Those with 2 year contracts get the early upgrade benefit if their contract expires between 11.16.2010 and 12.31.2010. Anyone expiring between 7.15.2010 and 11.15.2010 should already be eligible it will be 20 months since they signed the contract.

Seems like this isn't such a big deal after all, especially since it appears that any early upgrade will make you extend your contract by 2 years with no option for a 1 year contract. And no "buddy upgrade"? That sucks.

I recently decided to jump ship to an Android device. With the early upgrade promo I'm extremely tempted to get the X, but part of me still wants to hold off longer in hopes that the Droid Pro releases this year - my NE2 is in November.

For those possibly thinking of leaving Blackberry, check out my site, Blackberry to Android as I have kind of posted about my journey switching over from Blackberry. Once I did, I have NOT looked back.

Hope this site can help make your decision easier!

Definitely! Sorry RIM/ Blackberry but your browser is way too far behind to wait around for. You do many things very well but .. well, Android does way too much better. At least for me.

Very smooth transition for me (us). I just love the customization you can do. The OS on the Blackberry is like DOS. There is a kid on my son's baseball team who's father is a RIM Marketing employee and I got to play with the Slider and 6.0. It was pretty cool, and if I had never used a Android phone I'd be like wow! But it did not phase me. Not enough to bring me back!
