Droid X / 2 vs Bold 9650
Hey guys i know this has been discussed before but my girlfriend is thinking about buying a new phone and she is thinking about the droid x or droid 2. I have been a longtime blackberry fan and have never really ventured out of my circle (especially with all the new droid phones popping up) and i really have not talked to anyone who uses either droid phone. If anyone on vzw has used either/both of these phones or has a comparrision that would be awesome. im pretty much looking for specific features that one has over the other or i.e. blackberry 9650 cant use mobile hotspot something like that. thanks!

i would recommend the droid 2 for now. but it depends when she gets the device cause the htc merge is coming also.
i play with a droid 2 almost everyday and it fits nice in the hand. Droid x was my second android device and it is large and beastly but i feel thats a large device for a girl o_0. Bold 9650 is pretty bad, lack of a true web browsing experience is lame. os 6 isn't a game changer IMO.
Overall
HTC merge/Droid 2

Does she need the phone now? I'd wait, too, as Retro suggested. IMO, the Bold 9650 is a glorified Tour with added memory, a trackpad, and WiFi. Have your lady check out both the 2, and X, checking how each works with how she holds it. I've messed with the X, and realized it wasn't as bad as I thought with respect to my hand size. Additionally, she'll want to see if she can get comfortable with the slide out keyboard of the 2.

I have Both the 9650 and the Droid 2, if you're a long time Blackberry user I do recommend it. The reason being is the tactile keyboard, it also has touchscreen so if you've never owned a touchscreen device, this will make the transition much easier. The Droid 2 rocks by the way...

What does your gf use the device for?? I'm asking because I browse the web a lot so the switch from bb to Android was worth it to me.

Both the the X and D2 are great devices. I like the D2 because it has a physical keyboard and after you get used to it, it is really awesome. The X may have better specs, but I like the D2 better. It feels better in the hand and I like how it sits flush on the table.

If she uses Facebook a lot then a Droid X/2 should be the deal breaker.

If she holds her phone and dislikes bumpers, she should never consider the i phone 5 (or 4) face book integration is A class on the superior open google.

I don't know. Something howarmat mentioned about the Android version of FB, made me realize it was missing a thing or two, to make it really stand out. I just stick to TweetDeck, personally. I do use the FB app time to time, but find TD does things sufficiently, and uses FourSquare, and Twitter protocols.

Just between the dx and the 9650, since that is what the thread title is, it would be a tough choice . Before froyo I would say dx but now until they have an update to fix all the known bugs of the dx thats posted on motorola's forum . I would go with the 9650.

Yes thats exactly what it is, but That fixed all the issues with the Tour though and its probally the best Blackberry out right now...If you want a blackberry. I love mine, but Ill be going Andriod with my next phone.
What did froyo mess up the X?
I wouldnt not get a phone becasue it was buggy, becasue itll get fixed eventually. Also if froyo messed it up couldnt you just drop down to 2.1 and run that until the bugs get worked out? - 11-17-2010, 11:40 AM #17
i don't know about you guys but i never been more happy with a switch in phones. I loved my tour but playing with the 9650 it seemed like a waste of upgrade. so i went with droidx and never looked back. battery life is actually better then my tour. web is perfect. and preloaded with froyo the flash is almost flawless in the native browser.
its alot different tho. if your used to bb its takes time to get android down. but you will love it - 11-17-2010, 01:06 PM #18
In terms of specs the X is a fare superior device to anything that's out, even Sprints Evo. Though the Evo is close it still lacks the 8GB of onboard app storage that the X has - the Evo has 1GB. And this is a big big big thing especially since a LOT of apps will not run off the SD card.
Now if you live in a 4G area grab the Evo. Verizon will have their high end 4G android device out by the end of the year or very early 2011.

^Well, I guess it's a personal preference, but I wouldn't say it's "far superior" to other devices. Droid X is pretty old now (in tech-world time), and there are many phones that could hold up to it.
And I would tell whoever is considering either the Evo or the DX to be careful. I actually found the size to be way too big. (I guess that's what the 30 day grace period is for.) - 11-19-2010, 03:06 AM #20
