Default can't install apk files

Hi everyone,

I'm running the gingerbread 2.3 and for some reason now I can't install apk files. My phone was acting up so the sprint store set it back to factory; I installed astro file manager and appinstaller but when downloading apk files from the evo itself, I keep getting the content unsupported message. Before I was on gingerbread, I had a different apk installer but I can't seem to find anything else in market other than the appinstaller (using the new market)

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure you have "unknown sources" checked. Settings > applications > unknown sources.

the message says content can not be downloaded on the phone and asks me to install anyway or cancel. Even when I install anyway (trying to get a modded sms unread count app installed), I see the app in astro but when I press install it says the app doesn't exist. I tried installing sms unread with market and then downloading the apk again (wo uninstalling first, then by uninstalling and retrying). still, I can't get it to work.

Are you using Astro File Manager to install the APKs?

That happened to me before. I actually did another factor wipe and downloaded the same apk w/o a problem. I was downloading Camera Shutter apk off xda.
