| | Android virtual keyboard complaint
Am I the only one? Not sure if this issue is UI specific. I have HTC Sense, um, 2 I think. Whatever came with the Thunderbolt.
I love the keyboard! It's well spaced, responsive, has lots of options that are easy to access. I've learned you can press, hold, and drag the auto spelling bar out of the way, cool!
However, it seems I'm usually typing blind. When I press a text box to type, the keyboard takes up more than half of the screen. Then, as I'm typing the text I'm typing goes up the screen and I cent see anything except the auto speller bar. This seems to happen all the time.
I have my internet text set to huge so I can read it. But even if I set it to normal, when I press a text box to enter text it zooms way in.
Also, once in a while my keypad lags so badly that I have to type at a snails pace. It goes away on it's own. That's probably not fixable but just wanted to mention how much I hate that.
Does your keyboard take up more than half the screen?

i use flex t9 keyboard most times and yes it does the same basically. Some are better than others as it will moe the screen up as you type. I cant say it works the same on every webpage or app though. Its hit and miss

It's basically the browser your using from my experience. I remember this being one of my initial pet peeves when I first got my Android..the whole "typing blindly" thing. However..once I tried out some different browsers..some will open up a text box (rather than the tiny text box on the website) which you can view your post in entirety..until your done.
I think this was one of my reasons for liking Opera Mobile (not Mini).. So my suggestion would be try some different browsers and find one that opens the text box..vs trying to type on the website.
Edit: I've attached a couple screenshots for example..to compare different browsers. The first is how the text box looks in Opera Mobile
This one is Dolphin Mini
Both were done by hitting the Search function in CB and typing "test"

Chrisy, check the settings on it as well. I downloaded the smart keyboard pro and it has different settings. I was messing with it and whoa......I wasn't happy LOL was able to get it back to normal and all was fine. I really like the pro better than stock and there are different skins with it too. worth the money.....

Definitely worth checking out different keyboards and web browsers. Smart Keyboard Pro seems to be the most flexible, and SwiftKey can save a lot of typing with its text prediction.

I get generally a small box to type in with just about every KB I have tried, same with the browsers. I have yet to try opera mobile though. Gonna peep that now.

smart keyboard allows you to actually adjust the height of the keyboard, i agree i use it also, worth the few bucks, it also does autotext if you miss that from blackberry. and there's an incredible community of themers for it. Smart Keyboard Forum • View forum - Open Skins themes
i love the wp7 themes, it also does the wp7 keypress sounds, which i personally love
comes in a lot of colors.

I downloaded Smart Keyboard and when I go to use it it says it will collect what I type, including password information.
What is up with that?

Its because they gather your typing habits for its auto correction and whatnot. None of them should have internet access however..so its not like it can be transmitted to anyone.

Yes, the stock keyboard even accesses more services than smart keyboard. Without doing this it wouldn't be able to add words to the dictionary

That's what I figured. It looked like a generic warning. Just wish they didn't mention credit cards and passwords!
