| | Android users that do not use Gmail?
I am looking at jumping to an Android phone soon. I see there is a dedicated Gmail app and read that the stock email app is not great. I DO NOT use Gmail nor do I want to. I currently have 2 IMAP accounts and 2 POP accounts on my Storm 2.
Are there any Android users here without a Gmail account? Or an Exchange account? How is the email experience compared to a Berry?
** I understand I need a Gmail/Google account to setup the phone, but I will not use it for email **

Huh.
So what do you like over Gmail?
Its a bit off topic but I'm curious. As a Gmail Beta Tester I loved it from the start, what's not to like about it?

I use business domain accounts with rackspace mail. No need for Gmail.
So, do any non Gmail users run Android and if so how is the email experience?

Android handles non gmail email accounts very well.
When you hear mention that the stock email client isn't great, then you're probably hearing reference to the email client that comes with stock android (as compared to email clients created by the device manufacturer). It's not bad at all really. It handles POP/IMAP just fine, as well as Exchange. But it is still a pretty basic client.
However, it's rare anybody uses the stock email client since there are a plethora of free alternatives that offer a more advanced feature set. K-9 Mail and Mail Droid are more popular. HTC phones come with their own email client that is very good, so if you get an HTC device, you'll already have a great client. I don't have much experience with other brand android phones, so maybe somebody else can weigh in on Samsung or Moto.
I personally use K-9 Mail myself.

Here's what you can do: download apk files from somewhere other than the market. If you're thinking about just using a gmail for market access, then you should be fine. But, if you're insistent on zero gmail, check if you can enter payment info on the market's web page, sans gmail account I think a gmail free existence on android is probable.

Their should be no reason for any Android owner not using Gmail. Its like working for Apple and owns a Touchpad.

I have co workers who have Sprint as their provider, but others like myself, don't. We may work on Sprint's behalf, but aren't mandated to be sprint subscribers.

I keep my phone on vibrate 99% of the time and can still tell without looking at my phone which account just got an email.

You do realize you can sign up for a Google account using your e-mail address right?

I think you guys missed the OP's point. He's not against having a gmail account for the Android experience. He wanted to know how well Android handles non-gmail since he has some accounts from work that he will need to utilize.
