My phone is quickly running out of memory even with the few as I have, after only a few days. By comparison on the leap it took two years to reach the level of memory usage I've reached on the DTEK50 in less than a week. This is one of the things I deeply dislike about the Android OS (one of many) and I've disabled or uninstalled most Google apps. Now do I need to keep Google Drive installed or enabled on the phone or can I get rid of it?

You can't uninstall drive. You can disable it though. This will delete any data the App is caching, and delete any extra updates that have been installed. I doubt it will make a significant difference to your overall storage use though.

Are you referring to memory or storage?

If you're having problems with a lack of storage, you should really buy a micro SD card. You can add up to 256GB of storage that way.

Also, if you're desperate for app storage, you can configure your SD card as extended device storage as opposed to external storage. Use a high quality U3 speed card for this.

I already have a 29GB Micro SD card installed. But for now it's used as portable (external) storage. Don't know if it's though as it's about 2-3 years old...

You're sure it's Google Drive consuming your resources?

Well, make sure you are storing most of your data on the card. You should have the camera saving photos to the card for example.

If most of the storage is stuff (such as apps) that can't be moved to a portable card, then you really need to either uninstall some, or switch to adopted storage.

WARNING: the process of switching to adopted storage will DELETE everything that is currently on the card.

Edit: I'd also recommend getting a bigger card before you do the switch, as it becomes more difficult to change cards afterwards.

More important than size is speed.
