Side Loading 101 - Google Maps onto Z10
Here is how to get Google maps on your z10 for someone that has no idea what side loading is:
I have never side loaded before and this was my first try. I found what I believe is the simplest way to do it. It is using the chrome browser plugin for the playbook and the video DJ Reyes made (Sideloading made easy with the PlayBook App Manager Browser Plugin | CrackBerry.com).
There are other ways to do it too. I am using terminology that I think is easy for every one to understand.
1. Go to this link and download the Google maps app file. As of the time of this post it is a working link.
http://bb10bars.net/index.php/maps-7/
(make sure to remember where you saved it)
2. Go to this link to use the side loader software:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/c...&utm_medium=et
3. On the link, Click on “extensions” at the left menu

4.Type in “playbook” and press enter. The side loader software was originally made for the playbook, which is why that is the name of it.

5. You will see “playbook app manger” at the top. Click on “add to chrome”.

6.Click “add” when the popup shows.

7. After that you should see this screen:

8. Now leave your internet browser alone. Plug in your z10 to the computer USB. Then, I used universal search to find development mode on my z10. Click on it when it shows.

9. When you first go in development will be off. Turn it to on. It may prompt you for a password. It is the same password as your regular phone one you have set. If you haven’t set one for your phone I believe it will prompt you to.
sideload7.jpg
10. Once you have entered the password development will show as on. You will see a IP address. Copy down the IP address. Make sure you copy the decimals in the right place.
sideload8.jpg
11. Go back to the tab on your computer with the sideloader. Enter the IP address from the development mode (ensure decimals are there). Press save.
sideload9.jpg
12.The IP address will now show under “manage your device”. Click on the IP.
sideload10.jpg
13. You may get a warning that it is not secure. This is how the warning looks on the chrome browser. Click proceed anyway.
sideload11.jpg
14. Enter your device or development mode password and press log in.
sideload12.jpg
15.Here is how my screen looked next. This is with never using it before.

16. If you have chrome browser the downloaded app file will be at the bottom. You can drag it from there to the top right where it says “drag and drop files here to install”. If you don’t have it showing at the bottom open the folder where it is saved and drag it to the same place.
17. Once you do this the app will install itself. You will see the progress on the top left. Mine did not take more then a minute or two.
sideload14.jpg
18. It should then tell you complete, and the app will then show in your list.
sideload15.jpg
19. Turn off development mode on your z10
sideload16.jpg
20. Unplug your phone from USB
21. You will now see the navigation icon. It may also be called maps, depending on the version downloaded.Click it.

22. Google maps is now on your phone via Android side load! Done! You are in the app!

thanks! i'll try this after.
tip: use google maps offline mode. you can download up to 80 meg files and use them in offline mode (with full detail i believe). good for when you're leaving the country and can only rely on GPS. go to My places, then scroll to offline. something like that. - 02-08-2013, 07:12 AM #5

Does this one allows you to input Google account so as to use favorites in Google Maps?

Yesterday my side loaded Google map lost GPS when I was on high way and missed an exit. And the reason I had to use the side loaded GAP was because BlackBerry Map doesn't have my destination as a point of interest.

Yes it's not perfect, if you leave the app it will reset to the "Local" view and will lose the GPS lock and you'll have to go back to navigation to get it back.. but it will at least retain the directions and update the ETA once the GPS does lock back

Thanks a lot for this, super easy, the whole process took less than 10 minutes including downloading the BAR file. Now this is what the CrackBerry community is all about.
Great work with the detailed and simple to follow instructions. Really appreciate the hard work
