I download the apps directly to my playbook and install it with this tool

benefit is, that you need to sideload just one time the localbar app
...but you need a BB phone in the same wifi with a small app on it

Probably something wrong on your end. I have no problems side loading at all. You should troubleshoot yourself because its highly doubtful there will be anything Koz can do to fix your issue.

the app developers prevented the ability to backup the app in apk form, in which case i can't convert it.

i also have no problems side loading apps, it seems only a few users have this problem, i cannot duplicate it.
