Anyone got new android YouTube app working?
I can't get the new android YouTube app to work.
It only shows black screen. The previous version worked fine, but it's too ugly to use..lol
Is there no way to get it working?
And additional question is, how do I KEEP YouTube videos on browser to have bigger size video screen? And not change back to small size when I relaunch the Web browser and open YouTube? I set to collect cache, but it doesn't remember the bigger video size..
Thanks! - 10-13-2012, 01:03 PM #2
Re: Anyone got new android YouTube app working?
I couldn't get the newest Android YouTube to work either. Version 2.4.4 works but that version's bar file is hard to locate. Good eReader's bar file version is older.
If you Google 'YouTube 2.4.4 apk', you can find that version's APK file and convert it via Unkernet's APK to Bar file converter website. - 10-13-2012, 07:56 PM

Re: Anyone got new android YouTube app working?
Hey, thanks for your reply.

Isn't 2.4.4 the older theme, the black version. It looks really dated, and I really don't like it because in landscape mode, which I always use, the app really shows that it's made for small screens, like phones. The newer design makes two columns in landscape, so that it's much more tablet friendly.
I just hope someone makes a descent youtube app specifically for playbook.
OR If i could find a way to keep the browser version of youtube to always have video size bigger.. It's really annoying to keep changing that, especially because it's really slow doing that.
Any more ideas are welcome..! - 10-13-2012, 09:06 PM #4
Re: Anyone got new android YouTube app working?
Unfortunately version 2.4.4 is the older dated black background version but it seems to be the most recent version to work for me.
There may be some programming inherent in the more recent versions that makes them incompatible with PB Android Player.
If anyone could point to a proven Bar file that has been tested and running on PB, let us know._______________________________________

Re: Anyone got new android YouTube app working?
I have the 4.1.231 working on playbook. It was tough to get it to work. Had to install/uninstall multiple times.
This is what made it work for me:
- Have the old youtube 2.4.4 installed
- Install the newer version
- Have to keep both versions installed on PB
Now I am going to reboot and see if it keeps working.
Update: Okay, it is working fine even after the reboot. The old version now shows a black screen whereas the newer version works just fine. - 10-15-2012, 06:19 PM #6
Re: Anyone got new android YouTube app working?
Adva,
This actually works! Unbelievable!
Adding the newer version with the older version still in the PB created a second app icon.
Clicking the newest icon doesnt work, but when open it via the original icon and check the About/Settings, voila! it shows the newest version number.
I created a folder for the non-working icons (ie newest icons) and labeled as "duplicate must kept" and Im good to go.
I have done this for a few other Android apps with non-working newer versions and as long as I have a copy of working older version in the PB, that seems to work.
Thanks! - 10-17-2012, 07:57 PM #8

Re: Anyone got new android YouTube app working?
tried you method with great results...

installed a old 2.X Version and installed a 4.X version, the new version just gives me a black screen but the "old" version now opens up the new version
The app is fast and works great, much better than the built in one.
Thanks for the tip, time to ban the builtin youtube app to my "not needed" apps page!!! - 10-27-2012, 01:30 PM #11

Re: Anyone got new android YouTube app working?
Can someone please provide a link to a converted bar file of the newer version 4 of this app so I can try installing the latest version alongside the older 2.4.4 version as detailed elsewhere in this thread?
The links above just link to the older versions of the youtube app.

I think this is the latest. https://www.dropbox.com/s/y41ppwyqh7...1.0.4147.0.bar
I installed the older version, then installed the latest one, I now have a working 4.1.47 version on YouTube on my PlayBook, I also got the "Authentication Failed" message too.In BBRY we trust - 12-09-2012, 07:51 PM #19
I tried this using Kindle, didn't work. Both icons just opened up the older version and if you deleted the older version, the newer version would force close. The difference between the new YouTube app and the new Kindle app is that the YouTube only showed a black screen and nothing else, not even a force close, so maybe that has something to do with this particular method working for YT only and not for Kindle..

Sorry for my english.
Yes. To make work this latest android version you have first to sideload the latest .bar working file that Koz have give us.
Once installed both versions it will play with the look of the latest android version. However the login fail so, for me, that's a no go. But if you don't care for the login issue the file will work.
