Default Why is alltel so secretive about the switch date?

So I have been trying for about a week now to figure out when/if i can switch to Verizon since i want to get the Tour and have found nothing but frustration in my search. Alltel/VZW online FAQ's are no help, I have visited two different alltel and 1 VZW store, called 3 alltel customer service reps, and sent Alltel an e-mail about this but it seems like they are acting intentionally secretive. Every time I ask I get one of two answers: "you may or may not be switching because of your market" or "you will be switching sometime in the future". I understand that I still have 10 months on my contract so that I will not be able to get out now without paying the ETF, but the fact that it seems like they are intentionally withholding information is really starting to make me angry. heck, i can go on VZW's website myself and see that i AM switching, I just want to know why no one will tell me when!

I would assume that they don't want anyone abandoning their existing services ahead of time. You know, revenue and all! Milk it to the last minute.

i guess i can understand that, but if they are not going to let me out of my contract without paying the ETF (which they won't), i don't see why it matters if they tell me when i'll switch. i know it will be sometime before my contract is up but i'd like an answer a little more specific than "sometime in the future".

I would say their answer is based on the fact it will be a slightly different timeline in various geographical areas. Its won't be alltel one day and poof its vzw the next day everywhere. Some people have already been switched, most will be switched on the 12th and I'm sure some won't be till after that date. Basically they are giving an answer that is "safe" regardless of who you are or where you live.

this is what is most frustrating to me. they know what market i am in! they should be able to give me the information i am requesting about MY market. i'm not asking them when every other customer will switch, and frankly, i don't care. i am asking about my account that i pay them over $100 a month for, the least they could do is pretend they are trying to get me the correct info for MY market.

But if they were to give you an exact answer and for some unforseen reason the switch didn't happen that day or their plans were changed some people (not saying you would)might use that as an excuse to try and terminate their contract or get out of any etf or get a free upgrade or what have you. Its a corporate lawyer thing, the switch should be done soon enough(probably july 12th). Convienently the tour will be released about the same time so you might get your answer and an opportunity to get the tour at the same time. Its just 2 more weeks it won't kill either of us(I wanna know if I qualify for the tour ) be patient...lol

thanks guys... i am generally a very patient person, but being given the run around really grinds my gears. guess i'll just have to chill and wait for them to announce something like everyone else. it seems like i have been doing that since i first heard about the merger like a year ago, lol.

What market are you in? Maybe someone on here can tell you when you'll be switching.

Honestly it's just because it keeps changing. I called up a friend in upper management to ask him a few questions, and then asked him about my date for changeover. He said honestly he didn't know because it's been pushed back for my area 2x and that's why they haven't been giving much info as well.

That's the reason. Due to issues (network/billing/slow migration times) and various other factors some the schedule keeps getting pushed back. If one area has a hiccup and get's delayed then the other area's will get slightly delayed as well.

That's all it is. I'm sure at this point the reps dont have much info either until an area is confirmed (mailers, etc) as a specific date.

This is an answer i can live with, I just wish they would have been honest and have said that from the beginning instead of stringing me along from one service rep to another.

The closest I have gotten to a date is that my area will switch over sometime in October. It was originally suppose to be September but was pushed back a month.

This is exactly why no one has told you...because only those who have already switched...or about to switch on the 12th...have EXACT dates.

The rest don't because they don't know exactly how the conversion is going to go. They've done a few markets to test and now are going with a bigger group of markets. The rest will depend on how that goes.

No one is trying to keep it a secret. If they haven't given you an exact date, it means there ISN'T one for your market yet and they don't want to give you a date and have you be upset if it isn't achieved.

A friend of mine has alltell also and he went into a Verizon store and they allowd him to switch to Verizon and begin new contracts plus have him 50 off each new phone. So I call alltel and ask wher I can do this and they tell me this fall. Me and this guy only live 35 miles apart and they tell me it is not in our area yet! His contract had a whole year left on it. Just thought I would share. We live in Wisconsin
