Who gets me now, ATT or Verizon or ?

I received a letter from Alltel today about the upcoming "transition" to Verizon Wireless. My conversations with both companies have been confusing. Verizon says I will be divested and Alltel says the DOJ has not yet made a decision about my area (Butler county, Nebraska). The most important parts of the letter are below. I could change to US Cellular or perhaps ATT if I knew it was purchasing my area. Anyone with any insight in this matter?

....While some customers in your area will be transitioning to Verizon Wireless soon, your service will continue to remain with Alltel at this time....we will be in contact with you as we move closer to your transition to Verizon Wireless.

Here's what's going on in an area of Nebraska, NE RSA 5 (CMA 537): Boone, Butler, Colfax, Dodge, Merrick, Nance, Platte, Polk, Saunders, Washington counties: If you are an Alltel customer, you will become a Verizon customer once Verizon gets approval from the government for AT&T to take over the assets Verizon had before the Alltel merger.

So - until AT&T takes over what they bought from Verizon, you will stay Alltel (owned & operated by Verizon) - when AT&T takes over what they get to take over, then what's left of Alltel in NE RSA 5 will fully convert to Verizon.

I am in southwestern, Minnesota and also received the same letter. I have not heard any movement of AT&T buying the Verizon assets here, even though they are supposed to. Hopefully it all gets straightened out soon.

Is there any changes to what kch posted? It's still a little difficult to follow but some of the things I'm seeing lead me to believe that AT&T will actually be taking over the Butler County area. I spoke with a Verizon salesman in Omaha and that was his impression as well. I know that over Christmas, a friend of mine had a family member with AT&T that was on 3G just East of David City. I was surprised by that. And whatever happens with AT&T, it sounds like it will be in Q1 2010.
