Most other carriers, once you merge into there system you get grandfathered in and you can upgrade your hardware, until you want to change your minutes, thats when you lose your plan. I really dont understand what the urgency is with verizon wanting alltel users out of there alltel plans. The whole deal sounds a little fishy to me. anyway, thats my 2 cents

The whole deal sounds a little fishy to me. anyway, thats my 2 cents | You can upgrade your hardware. You can keep your Alltel plan and get a Verizon phone. But if you want to use any of the Verizon services, it only makes sense that you switch to a Verizon plan and phone.
The Verizon/Alltel merger is actually a pretty nice takeover, Verizon is adopting many of Alltel's features and policies. I mean, Verizon made the Friends and Family (Verizon's My Circle) available for all of it's 87 million customers. Before the merger Alltel was only made up of around 15 million subscriber, while Verizon had around 75 million. Verizon could have just let the My Circle go and kept their plans as they were.
And for those who say that with Verizon you're paying more for less... It's not true. If you compare plans and prices, Verizon and Alltel's pricing is VERY close.

As R.O.C. states, pricing is very close but we're still comparing apples and oranges. I looked at the details while in the VZW store the other day and I would have ended up with more phone minutes, less texting, nights and weekends moving to 9pm from 7pm, circle moving from 10 to 5. I stayed with my Alltel plan.

I guess some peoples idea of very close isn't quite the same as mine. I got 2 lines(only 1 bb) 500 anytime, 10 my circle, nights and weekends at 7, unlimited pics, texting etc. With ins on the bb and taxes its $125 a month with vzw to get close to these options my bill would jump to over $150 a month...that's quite a percentage increase.

Verizon allowed me to extend my Alltel plan while selling me a tour at 2 year contract rate.
Kept 7pm nights
All 11 mycircle, just to name a couple that are very useful to me that Verizon doesn't even offer.
As long as I don't change my plan I keep what I had and wanted from Alltel.
If I wanted what Verizon offered for the money I would have been with them before but I didn't and Verizon is respecting that and allowing me to keep my Alltel plan.
So I don't see where Verizon is planning on "milking" me for anything.
The feel of "urgency" is coming from less than knowledgeable reps. or reps on their own agenda (trying to make money, look good, meet quotas). Mass-misinformation out there.

Does anyone know how to figure out how many peak minutes you have used? In my Verizon account, it seems to put all of the peak minutes (including mobile to mobile and My Circle/Family) all together into one category and I have no idea what my actual minute count is? It's very annoying!!

one of my favorite parts about alltel.com is they sort everything out and you know EXACTLY what you've used

How on earth are you people getting VZ phones on your Alltel account? I can't get anyone around where I live to admit it can even be done! I have talked to 3 different in-store CSRs and also called VZ customer service. I've been told by everyone if I want the Tour, I have to wait until I'm upgrade eligible and then switch my contract to VZ.
You would think they would be willing to get me into a VZ phone now because if I wait until my contract is up I could walk and take my three lines with me, ya know?
I know, I know-- waa, waa, waa! |

Your plan is really the only one where Alltel has a distinct advantage over the VZW plans.
Once you start adding more lines, minutes and features, the Verizon plans become more benefitial.
I don't want to speak for anyone, but from what I've seen, there aren't a whole lot of 500 minute smart choice/family plans
out there. Quote:

I know, I know-- waa, waa, waa! | When the merger is complete in your area, you will be able to upgrade to a Verizon phone, but keep your Alltel plan. The Verizon and Alltel reps haven't all read up on the policies of the switch, so some may just being going by the assumption that if you want a Verizon phone, you need a Verizon plan. Quote:

Verizon also lets you look at call logs day by day, as opposed to only after your bill posts like Alltel. And one pretty major thing Verizon allows you to do which Alltel to this point hasn't is being able to block specific numbers from calling you...
