WARNING on tethering when switched to VZW!

Just to let you guys know. I had national Freedom 1200 data plan with tethering on Alltel and I was just switched to VZW. Everything crossed over except for the tethering!

This could impact you enormously if you tether a lot and it does not get carried over as VZW is cracking down on illegal tetherers. Stories of 3000.00 bills have surfaced.

It is 30.00 a month instead of 25.00 FYI.

yeah I had the old Alltel $10 tethering and when I upgraded my phone and kept my Alltel plan with Verizon the tethering vanished! Couldn't get it back without moving to the $30 plan. At that point, I just moved to a Verizon plan to take advantage of a 20% discount offered through my employer.

If I had known, I would have just left everything alone.

Is the tethering speeds any better with verizon. I am paying the $10 for me and my wife but am willing to pay more if it is faster.

you can get the verizon employer discount with your alltel plan

I wish the 5 Verizon CS reps I spoke to regarding employer discounts on the Alltel Smartchoice plan would have said the same thing!

Was told the "freedom" plan was eligible but not the Smartchoice plans. Also putting my info into the system via the web told me I was not able to get it.

Basically after the switch in keeping my ALLTEL plan I pay 20.00 bucks more a month because of the tethering. I though our plans were supposed to stay the same through the end of our contract? I can't wait to switch to the VZW plans so I can give them more money.

Tethering is not part of a plan or your contract - it is a feature. Features will change if you switch to a VZW device. Besides - if you upgraded, then you signed a new two year agreement with guess who... VZW

Oh and besides guys - that tethering for $10 would have been phased out soon enough with Alltel. It was only a matter of time. Tethering with Alltel before all of this was $30. Not sure when it changed from $10 to $25 and now $30.. but that's the current pricing.

I am surprised the rep didn't tell you during the switch? Unusual? Well, if you want to tether with verizon be prepared to pay for it. I opted for com cast high speed Internet at 19 dollars a month, of course I am tethered to the house! LOL!!!

Alltel employer/affinity discounts did not/do not apply to smart choice plans.

What rep? Was someone supposed contact me directly when the switch happened? I am just glad I caught this before I got a 3000.00 dollar bill.
