Default Verizon Phone on Alltel Network???

I purchased a new 8330 from eBay that came from Verizon. I was under the impression that I could unlock this phone then activate it on my Alltel network, but so far nobody at Alltel knows how to do this. Does the phone need to be flashed with the Alltel software and is the unlock required? I have been told I can activate it on the Alltel network but it will only act like a regular phone and not a blackberry..which is unacceptable. Any help or knowledge with this would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you go underground, you'll have a hard time finding anyone to do that. Yes, alltel and VZW use similary CDMA technology, but that's something you should have asked an Alltel rep about before buying the phone.

If you act quickly, I'd resell the phone on ebay since you may still get a decent price. I would try to sell it again before the bold, javelin, and storm come out. IMO that's your only choice

It all depends on if Alltel allows 3rd party probes or not! Which Is something I'm going to look into with the storm coming out. However I don't know if Alltel allows them or not I haven't checked that far into it yet

Alltel does not allow any non-Alltel phones to be activated on their system.

Can you get a rep to do the ESN change w/o advising them it's VZN, etc, phone? Probably but you'll be on your own getting it to work cause they will not support any non-Alltel phone.

the esn wont show up in their system if it isnt an alltel phone. you can try and tell them its an alltel phone but after failing to activate it they will have you go to a store.

There are plenty of non alltel branded phones on their netwrok, while it is true that reps are not allowed to add them. I know there supervisors willing to overlook where the phone is from if it keeps the customer from wanting to cancel service.

The only way the phone would cause roaming charges was if it wasn't programmed correctly. If the phone is correctly programmed with the most current prl you should not have any problems

I'd love to see the non-Alltel BB on the Alltel network that does anything correctly other than voice service.
A BB's PIN is assigned to the Carrier it was manufactured for. That PIN is in RIM's BIS server so it does not matter what OS you are running, data will always push to the carrier who owns the PIN (GSM is a different story).
Sometimes you may get a web page (very slowly and only after you program your SIP/MIP and server info manually on the phone) usually your voice will be fine (unless PRL is still wrong) email? Good luck.
Just buy an Alltel phone from eBay and save yourself the hassle.
Alltel is not blocking it because they want you to purchase a new phone from them (you wouldn't be able to activate any used Alltel phone either if that were the reason). They want your phone to work correctly with their systems.
Blackberry alows this as most carriers that have phones created just for them (Bold, Storm Iphone etc) help pay for the manufacturing/design of the phone with the stipulation that only they get to offer it for a specific amount of time.
I hope my late night rambling make as much sense to you as they do me.
Happy holidays 'see' you crackheads next year.

As for BB's it is true that it will only able to do voice. I have seen other smart phones that are not alltel branded that are able to do voice and data.

You can switch the ESN's all you want. All phones have some type of serial number. But in all honesty, the technology is NOT exactly the same.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular...but its not going to work. You can try and maybe you will get lucky. But most likely, it will not work.

For example...the Pearl is a phone used throughout different carriers. Verizon has always been able to MMS on the Pearl. Alltel could not with 4.3. Sprint supposedly cannot picture message at all on Pearl. Just because its the same phone, and some companies may use SIMILAR technology...the phones are not programmed the same.

I guess I don't understand why some people just want to create more work and hassle for themselves than its really worth, imo.
