Verizon Pearl 8130 on Alltel

So I have a blackberry pearl 8130 that I want to give to a friend of mine (She's stuck with an OLD Nokia phone. You remember them.) My question is: I know that on verizon you have to have a data plan with the blackberry. Is this true for Alltel as they are part of verizon now? If so how much does it cost if anyone knows off the top of their head.

You must have BlackBerry Plan for any BlackBerry on Alltel and you most likely will not be able to activate a Verizon BlackBerry on an Alltel plan (at least not without a lot of work and maybe not even then). You would need a Verizon plan.

For Alltel, I believe that the BlackBerry Plan is an additional $45 on top of your voice plan. Or there might be SmartChoice Plans that are better options.

SmartChoice plan is definitely a better option but like Mama said, i dont believe it will work yet on alltels network without a lot of reprogramming work. Even then i dont know if all the features will work. There is a post on here where some members got the storm to work on alltels network so, i wont say its impossible. it all depends on how phone(tech) savvy you are.
i have seen pearls on ebay for as low as $110 (maybe another option for you)

You can get a vzw pearl to program on Alltel service the only thing we cannot guarentee is that all features will work, idealy you could downoad the Alltel 4.5 off our site and then wipe the pearl then reinstall the alltel version, nit sure how that would do but might be worth a try, the only other thing you would need is a willing rep to manually program the phone, and hope the esn is able to be activated on our systems.

As far as plans, you can add the BB code at 45$ or the SC plans start at 70 with no txt msging, or 90 with unlimited. If you have any questions, I can likely do a lot of the stuff for you, PM me and I can give you a call.
