Touchpad BB coming to Alltel

While I was on the phone with Alltel figuring out that there was a national outage, I asked the they if they was getting the BB Essex. The rep asked me if that was the touchpad BB, and I said yes. He said that they didn't know what Alltel would be calling it, but they in fact had just got the dummy touchpad BB in, but he didn't have a release date. So hopefully it's the Essex, bc that's what I really want. Then again it could be the touchpad curve. What do you guys think of Alltel getting the Essex?

That's nice but I'd have to see if it's significantly better than the Tour to warrant me buying one. Wifi is nice but not necessary with me.

Its actually the Curve 8530. Last I heard late January or early Feb. release.

Ah....I have been reading all these threads about "when will the Tour 2 be released" but seems to be Verizon and Sprint threads. So is there is no hope for a Tour 2 for Alltel from what anyone knows ?(of course, where I am located...our Alltel may soon be divested to AT&T....so hmmm).

There may still be hope. One thing about Alltel is they don't do a lot of advertising about which phones they will be getting in. They just get a phone like the Tour or Curve2 3 to 6 months after VZW and Sprint. But then again, you never know. By the time they do get it some people will be AT&T and others will be ATN.

Middbrew, Thanks for that info! Being in the VZW "divested area"....it may be best to just kick back and see what happens this next year...hard to know when we will have to change phones (at least with AT&T) anyway!
Meanwhile, btw, my local Alltel rep had not heard of the Tour 2 and thought I was mistaken as to the name, etc.! Obviously she is not familiar with this e-site.

Cybee, it is amazing how the reps at some stores are clueless about the phones they sell. The store I go to all the reps use BB's and are a little more aware of what is coming. That being said, Alltel tries to keep everyone guessing.

I don't think Alltel will release any new devices until AT&T and ATN complete their takeovers.

Not all of Alltel merged. I think some markets got sold off to someone (ATT maybe?) and some got sold to Atlantic Tele Network, I think some of us will stay Alltel.

Because of anti-monopoly laws Verizon couldn't buy all the Alltel markets. By the end of the year those markets still operating under Alltel will become either AT&T or ATN. The ATN markets will be operating under the name Allied Wireless.
