Default AT&T replacement phones now online

Just a note for Alltel users being switched to AT&T. If you go to att.com/choosemyphone you will have a list of FREE phones to replace your existing one....or upgrade for a fee and new contract. I have an 8330 and 8530 and they have the 9700 available for free (but out of stock).

It will actually default to a different BB at the end of the week. The 9700 is there as a place holder until the new one launches.

Do you know which one? I'd really like the 9700 as it's the comparable replacement for the 9630/9650. No chance it's the 9780 is it? If they offer a Curve 3g on my Tour line Im gonna be pissed, but my wife might not mind a Pearl 3g as she misses suretype.

Email from AT&T came out today. The free phone offered that's a BlackBerry is the new Curve 3g 9300 and keep your Alltel contract. $99 for the Torch and 2 year new contract. Decisions..decisions.

Yeah the Curve 3g is the default device for all BB's. So it doesn't matter if you have an 8530 or a 9650 the free replacement is the same.

That is unfortunate, because besides the WiFi the Curve 3G looks like a serious downgrade from the Tour. Worse camera with no flash, lower res screen, etc.

Yeah the 9700 would have been the default except that they will no longer be carrying it when the phones start shipping.

GRRRR....... I tried it, and was told that my account isn't able to choose until 10-16. Considering I just talked to an Alltel rep today and found out the pre-selection letters wouldn't be going out till the end of this month, I shouldn't be surprised.

GRRR is right. Got the same message when I tried last week. Then who knows how long it'll be before we actually see our new phones. Weeks? Months?

That's because you guys are in group 4. So far only groups 1-3 have started the selection process and the phone won't be shipped until the network is ready. We are in group 3 and the phones won't start shipping until the first week of december.

Yeah, I knew that the new phones wouldn't actually be shipped out until our area was ready to switch over. I was just wanting to see what the options for the free phones were and whatnot. Just being impatient over here.

The phones that are available for pre-selection are pretty slim. If you have a Blackberry your choices for comparable phones are the Curve 3G, HTC Aria and Palm Pre. You can also downgrade into the 7 non smartphone models. The Blackberry Torch, Apple Iphone 3Gs, Apple Iphone 4 and Samsung Captivate are the models you can upgrade to, but will require an AT&T rate plan and new 2 yr contract.

I'm not Happy about this either. I just purchased the BB Bold 9650 in August. I haven't even got my rebate back yet. I'm still paying for it.
I can't believe that Alltel is still selling Alltel phones knowing they will only be paper weights in a couple months. I love my Bold and hate to downgrade. I wish there was some way to keep my phone.
I would love to upgrade to the Torch but the plans are quite a bit higher. I understand we will be grandfathered in on the unlimited data plans as long as we don't pay for an upgrade or switch plans. Alltel was quite a bit cheaper. I am not too sure on the HTC's.
