Default ?? Sign contract over but keep (port) #, can I do it?

Here is what I have/want to do.. My question is can i do it?

I have 2 BB curve 8330 on alltel. I have 9 months left on my contract, but want to switch to verizon for many reasons.

I have someone who wants to take over my contract, along with the two BBies. The rep at the alltel store said "no prob" just come in, do credit check, and sign all over. The problem is that I want to port the #'s so I can keep them with me, and have the new owner of the contract get new #'s.

The alltel rep said that if i port the #'s that i will get charged teh ETF. IS THIS RIGHT? Why cant they just 1. issue 2 new #'s to the new person and activate the 2 BB's on those and then 2. port my #'s to verizon ?? Does anyone have experience with this??

It is the same company so may not have to do anything, best thing is to speak to alltell/verizon and see if need to do anything at all except change plans

It is, but not really. In my area we still have both companies, and they are competitors. I might call them and see. I just know that sometimes the first person you talk to at the store is NOT the most knowledgeable. Thought I would get a few 2nd opinions / experiences.

Yes you will get charged the ETF's if you port the #'s while under contract. Also if you are doing a change of responsibility the person taking over your lines would keep your #'s.

This is some clarity on why the companies do this ... If you port numbers over from alltel to verizon essentially alltel allows verizon to take "their" number for your convenience ... The number belongs to alltel and this deters customers in contract from leaving ... plus some other fine print with policies that are not important ... Porting in WLS = cancelled acct period ... AOL (assumption of liability = your number stays) They dont allow crossover in those business rules for security Hope that makes sense ... Also any workarounds let us know!!
