question about my insurance

I have a blackberry curve 8530 with alltel. I have insurance on it, but I was wondering if I could use my insurance to get an android phone instead of another curve? Any suggestions?

No, if you were to claim a loss of some sort, you will end up getting the same device you currently have. In case your model is too old and is not in stock anymore, you'll get the next up or the newer one.

What if I was willing to pay for it? Or at least pay what I would if I upgraded? I can't upgrade my plan for another year.

That might be something you can negotiate with a store manager, but I doubt you will be able to work that out.
