| | No EVDO while roaming, could it be due to the VZW switch?
first of all, i'm in one of those wonderful divested markets that did not get switched over to verizon. this is where my question comes from. i know that the switch date was sometime last week and lately i've been having problems with EVDO reception while roaming. everything works well in my home market, however i am on vacation right now (myrtle beach, sc) and i have no EVDO at all. i am wondering if it may be because the VZW switch affected this market and now i'm left in the dark since i wasn't one of the "chosen ones". i can still make calls and send texts, the reception on that is fine, but i can't figure out why else i would have no EVDO in a densely populated market like myrtle beach. e-mail and the web are paaaaaaaainfully slow. if anyone has another reason this could be happening, i'm all ears. |

I have the same problems with Sprint while roaming in SE oklahoma. I still get great voice...just no EVDO.
I'd call Verizon and see what they have going on.

You can get the tour without switching from your alltel plan.

last bump for the night... any advice would be appreciated. i'll be trying to find a VZW store tomorrow to address this issue since all of the alltel stores here have already switched to the big red V signs.

Go to Options/Mobile Network/ and make sure its set to 'Automatic' and not 'Home Only'

tried calling alltel customer service but for some reason kept getting put in contact with verizon... even though i am not their customer. after having no luck on the phone, i went to a verizon store and was told that i would have EVDO if i was with them, but since i wasn't there was nothing they could do about it. when i mentioned that i was still on an alltel plan, they told me that i could pay the ETF and join VZW or stick with alltel and deal with things like this throughout the divested market transitions.
i am back at home now with full EVDO coverage, but i still really just want to know how to get in touch with alltel! it is not fair to keep people in a contract when you are not going to provide them with any sort of customer service. i kept getting pawned off on VZW who has no real interest in helping me outside of selling me a new contract, which would also entail me paying the alltel ETF.

This whole merger is a PITA. I suggest being patient tho I wouldn't swap to verizon either.

Hey Solid -- just curious, what's your PRL? If it's 41000, you've the most current one for divested markets.
I have similar data roaming problems, especially when I'm the east coast. Calls are dropping too more than usual. Really sux.

i just don't know what to do any more. there are no alltel stores to go talk to, if i call alltel customer service they put me in contact with VZW, and if i go to a VZW store they just want to sell me a new contract instead of addressing the problem. this is getting rediculous.

Call 1-800-Alltel1...
This is the number to contact Alltel no matter where you are. What will likely happen though is you will reach a retained Alltel rep who won't be able to help you, and will get transfered to the Divested team (who are less than helpful).
And even though someone mentioned it earlier, as a divested customer you will not be able to keep your alltel plan and get a Tour. This is because you will not be part of the conversion.

Alltel customer service should not be putting you in touch with Verizon. Being that you are divested you having nothing to do with VZW. I do know that non-divested roaming agreements changed because of the merger and I would imagine the divested did as well but I have no knowledge of their current agreements. Like the last person said call 1-800-Alltel1 and make sure you speak with someone in divested support they should be able to tell you if they have evdo roaming agreements where you are at.

i agree that they should not be putting me in touch with VZW, however when they cannot answer my questions, that is exactly what they are doing. they have not mentioned that a "divested market" support department even exists, although i'll try asking for it specifically.
