Merger Information

I am looking to purchase a Curve and I am do an upgrade through Alltel, however, I am hesitant to do so without any information on the upcoming merger. I have heard that all plans will be grandfathered in? Any confirmation on this? Also, will employer discounts be applied to previous Alltel accounts after the merger? I'm trying to decide whether to get a new Curve now and have my Alltel plan carryover (cheaper and better plan) or go ahead and purchase a VZW Curve and plan and take the employer discount. Any help is greatly appreciated.

From everything we have heard if you have a contract on your acct your plan will be grandfathered in, as far as your employer discounts if it is a discount through alltel that should be honored as well. If it is a employer discount through verizon we aren't sure if they will discount an alltel plan.

Same thing here. It even says that on the alltel website under merger information.

If they become one company, it better include VZW customers as well.

I could get a discount if I went with Verizon but I prefer Alltel. If I have to go with Verizon because of the merger then I want the corporate discount. It seems fair to me.

You can get corporate discounts through Alltel, you might want to look and see if the company you work for is eligible.

I was told you could only get corporate discounts on normal plans, not smartchoice plans.

Oh yeah nevermind they don't qualify due to them already bundling all the features at a discount.

smartchoice plans?... must be something on alltell... I have a family share plan thru vzw and I get 20% on my plan and 25% on accessories because of my employer

Smart choice plans bundle all the data features with a voice package. If you had a regular plan with the BB feature you could get the discount.

If I renew my contract with Alltel before the merger I wonder if VZW will honor the corporate discount on my grandfathered smartchoice plan once the merger goes through?

I don't have any answers for you, but did want to say I spoke with a Verizon rep this week and when I asked about the merger they said they are hoping for the first quarter of 2009, but they don't know if it will be that early or not. He said "it's up to way more than Alltel and Verizon at this point". I was talking about losing mobile to mobile minutes with my husband if I switched to Verizon at this point. They agreed at this point. I didn't ask about after the merger goes through though.
