A federal judge ruled today that Verizon Wireless can reacquire 22 former Bell Atlantic/GTE markets from Alltel, eliminating the need for a special “Hold Separate Trust.”

The markets were to have been placed in the Hold Separate Trust if the judge didn't rule before the close of the Alltel/Verizon merger.

That means they will now transition to Verizon when the Alltel/Verizon closes early in January. The markets are located in Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Ohio, New Mexico, Texas and Arizona.

Today’s decision has no impact on the “Management Trust” that will oversee the 105 markets that federal regulators are requiring Verizon to sell as a condition of the merger. The Management Trust will still go into effect on the day the Alltel/Verizon merger closes and will remain in place until those markets are sold.

I'm guessing nothing has changed with the 9th being the completion date and then the transition starting shortly therafter?

Well, they won't have to create the "Hold Separate Trust" now - otherwise, next week will be an interesting one.

next week is going to suck in general for myself. Although, I am now using the Delve as my work phone instead of the Touch.

Will be fun indeed. Systems down mean I can't do cycle counts at my stores until everything gets worked out from downtime procedures.

Well with the systems partially down last week didnt help either. Some lady told me I'm ridiculous since it was down and she couldnt pay her son's bill.
