Default I just got done visiting three VZW stores

I will go ahead and tell you my experience and you can sit back and judge for yourself if I am getting a good deal or not.

I have had Alltel for 14 years and have never had a BB. Since I was eligible for an upgrade I thought I would go ahead and get the Storm since I am now a Verizon "Customer". I went in and everything seemed to be going well, until I was told that I was going to have to pay an additional $25 for a data plan (at Alltel all the smartphones on my plan were paying $7 for BB's) + an additional $10 for the cheapest text messaging package they had - my Alltel plan already has unlimited text messaging for each line.

To sum things up, if I walked out with a Blackberry Storm I would be paying for text messaging (when I already have unlimited but VZW claims their messaging packages don't "register" with the Alltel packages) and an additional $25/month for a data plan - compared to the $7/month data plan my other BB's are paying from the Alltel plan, making the total for one Verizon phone cost an additional $32/month. But hey, I have been told by users on this board that the customer service is incredible on Verizon .

Great deal or am I just crazy?

Typical VZ pricing (i.e. high as he$$) but they do have good service and customer service. What makes you craZy is choosing a Storm over a Tour. I would probably stay with Altell until they force you onto VZ with 14 yrs loyalty and price you have.

Have you considered just buying a Storm and setting it up on Altell?

I can't even find an alltel store near me. If I do find one, can I just get the curve from them if I have been merged over to Verizon?

However, someone will have to activate it and VZW is the only who can do that for me now. I will still have to pay the $25 + whatever text messaging plan I want (even though I currently have text messaging). Is there a way Alltel can activate it and I will just have to pay the $7 BB fee?

My bb data plan on alltel is an additional $20 a month. I was under the impression that all bb plans were an additional $20.

Well...the VZW guys will say "you get what you pay for." Of course, that can be interpreted at least a couple of different ways.

I've never heard of a $7 BB plan with alltel. There are smartchoice plans, which will divide things up differently. But in reality, it would be $40 for a seconday BB on an alltel smartchoice plan and a $40 fee for a secondary phone on verizon to have a BB. Nothing different there.

The primary phone obviously carries that bulk of the plan. Not sure what plan you're currently on, but it certainly doesn't sound like the regular smartchoice plan.

I just want to know if I can still go to an Alltel store and get the curve using my same plan. Verizon has already told me they are going to add an additional BB charge and a new text messaging plan (when I ALREADY have unlimited) because I am upgrading to a "Verizon" phone. Can I just buy a damn Alltel phone and avoid these fees? If not, then why? Family plans on leaving VZW after contract and none of us are going to upgrade our phone until we are told we can at LEAST keep our unlimited texting that we signed up for. AT&T have good rates?

I went last week to my local Alltel Store (That they closed by the way) and purchased a Curve. I upgraded to a data/BB plan at that time.. After the Merge last week-end, I had a few problems, but all the Alltell pricing, and features came to VZW with me.. I may upgrade to a different phone when my contract is up, (You never know what is in the future for phones) but I'll never change plans.. I'll stay with the Alltel pricing and features as long as I'm using a BB or other Data friendly phone.

Edit: By the way, the Verizon sales people at the local "NEW" store are very condescending, and in my opinion Rude.

Wink VZW Stores

Ill tell you first hand there is a lot of pressure from up on high to push push push VZW. Data cards especially. VZW is totally ape $^%@ on getting LTE up and running before anyone else Nationwide. They want customers to be used to the mediocre service provided by EVDO in many places Now in the country so that LTE will be a huge shocker once initiated.

Default To the OP

Any way you slice it, you're crazy and getting ripped off as soon as you get involved with VZW....don't drink the kool-aid...
