Default Huawei EC168

Whats the deal. I purchased this modem thinking AND told by Alltel that this would be way faster than using my 8330 as a modem. It's not! My reception is great, that's not the problem. That modem is barely faster than my phone. I want to take it back, I think it's a garbage gimic piece of crap. Am I doing something wrong? Can I change a setting or something to speed it up? Or is this just not supposed to be much better than my phone? Can someone shed some light please.

Thanks!

I don't think you will see a significant speed increase if any at all. Their air cards still used the same towers and technology as your 8330. If they said you would browse significantly faster I'm pretty sure that's an outright lie.

Actually it should run faster as it is Rev A capable and the 8330 isn't. When you open the quicklink program at the bottom it will tell you what your signal is. It will show 1X, DO, rA. Most area's the card should be running Rev A as almost the entire network has been upgraded. If it is showing anything else or still being slow you can call advanced tech support and have them troubleshoot the issue.

Call 1-501-905-8000 and ask for Executive Relations, then tell them to get a DTS rep on, they can help you better than anybody

Also, I have an 8330 and a Huawei EC228 and I tried tethering, my BB only got about 300 - 500 Kbps and my aircard gets anywhere from 800 - 2100 Kbps, and I am in the same place as the Alltel HQ, and I have a pefect signal on both

Like asp13 asked, what signal type are you pulling? You may have "great reception," but if its only 1X or even worse RXTT, then its going to be really slow.
Your 8330 should definitely not be getting faster data speeds than the aircard.
From the main Quick Link Mobile screen, go to Help>About Quick Link Mobile, and in that screen there should be a PRL version, hopefully one that begins with 400. What number do you have here?
You could call DTS if you wanted, but this doesnt sound like an issue STS or ATS couldn't handle...

One of the main benefits of a data card is the fact that you are not using your phone in the process. You can receive calls, but how often is this going to interrupt your internet connection?

And to echo what R.O.C. said - def check your PRL. That's the first thing ATS is going to look at. DTS won't do anything different really. They can push a new PRL, but even ATS can walk over to their desk and get that done.
